Chapter 240 : I Was Not Late
The other watchers pursed their lips as the scene unfolded in front of them.
No one could really explain what had happened. Had the young woman really arrived on time? Was she really late? However, with all the students gazing at her, they were also cautious to react.
The students watched closely, and the older people couldn’t help but shuffle uncomfortably.
Yao Tang didn’t respond. Instead, she remained unbothered as she walked toward the only empty seat in the room and sat down.
When Yu Shu saw that she was late, she couldn’t help but grin.
Now that she was one of the exam invigilators, and Yao Tang was nothing but a student, didn’t this mean that she was already a step up from her?
“You aren’t even on time. Do you think you can still take the test?” she snapped. “What kind of student has no discipline that she’d be late for the Olympiad Math Competition?”
One of the male teachers couldn’t help but frown at the sight. “She arrived right on time at two o’clock,” he slowly said. “I’m sure that’s allowable.”
The Olympiad Math Competition was an event for elites only. Anyone who would attend such a prestigious competition was serious about this examination.
It would be a shame if she weren’t able to compete just because of a few seconds.
However, Yu Shu was quick to glare at the teacher. “The event states that any student who had arrived at the premises even a second late from two o’clock will be barred from entry,” she snapped. “Besides, she obviously doesn’t care much about the exam to have arrived this late!”
“This student probably thinks she could just waltz in and take what she wants, well, I’m here to tell her that she can’t!”
If Yu Shu can’t redeem herself now, when else could she take her revenge?
It was time for her to seize the opportunity, and she certainly wasn’t going to let Yao Tang off the hook.
“Sir, when the student came in, it was already past two o’clock,” the boy from Class 1 spoke up. “Are you really going to make an exception just for her? Isn’t that unfair for the rest of us?”
All the students started staring at her unkindly.
If they let her in, then that would mean that the entire competition was rigged, wouldn’t it?
“We regret to inform you that you’ve been barred from entry,” Yu Shu stated matter-of-factly. “It seems that you’ve exceeded the time stated, and as such, you are not allowed to participate in the Olympiad Math Competition.”
While her tone was filled with regret, her eyes weren’t. Instead, she stared at her viciously like a predator who had finally caught on to her prey.
“I arrived on time,” Yao Tang replied. “I wasn’t late.”
“You weren’t late?” Yu Shu barked out a laugh, scoffing. “Look at the clock. It’s already two o’clock. What proof do you have that states you weren’t?”
“Students these days are really willing to lie about anything just to get what they want.”
The other invigilators were already convinced by this matter as they nodded, crossing their arms over their chests. They glared at the newcomer.
Yao Tang ignored her words and stared at the clock. “The clock is broken,” she said casually.
Hearing this, Yao Ran stifled a scoff.
Saying that the clock was broken meant that she was questioning the invigilators themselves. Walking through that line of questioning was like stepping over a minefield—something that shouldn’t be done.
“The clock is broken?” Yu Shu sputtered in outrage. “Maybe your brain is the one that’s broken! Look, you’re late. You don’t have to blame the clock for being fast.”
The students barked out a laugh.
They couldn’t believe that the young woman was overestimating herself and that she had the nerve to quarrel with the invigilator. Was she insane?
However, Yao Tang still didn’t back down. Instead, she reached out for her pen and rolled her eyes. “If that’s the case, then you wouldn’t mind confirming it here?”
All their phones were switched off, but it was still easy to confirm it. All they needed to do was to compare the clock they had to the other examination room next door.
The male teacher slowly nodded. “Well...” He glanced at Yu Shu.
