Chapter 658 - Losing You (3)
Zhang Wuying stepped back and pulled her wrist from her nephew's vice-like grip. Zhang Jiren glared at her before turning to face Feng Tianyi and his twin sister, fully aware of how Li Meili was glaring at them.
"I apologize for my aunt's rude behavior." He told Feng Tianyi, who only gave him a nod. However, he was really itching to do something to Zhang Wuying at that moment. No one dared to insult his wife in front of him, and he would make sure the old woman paid for it eventually.
"Aunt Wuying, please don't make a scene. I will have to send you home if you keep insisting on bringing shame to the family. Father wouldn't be pleased if he heard about this." Zhang Jiren reminded his crazy aunt.
After all, she was still relying on the Zhang family's wealth and her brother's support. She would have no other choice but to listen to him if she didn't want to be cut off from all financial assistance.
Zhang Wuying looked at him and at Tang Moyu who remained unmoving in her wheelchair as if she couldn't be bothered with what her 'mother' said about her being a jinx, an unlucky star who only brought ill-fated luck to her loved ones.
Tang Moyu didn't want to think that Zhang Wuying was right. The reason behind her mother and twin brother's death was still unknown to her, plus, she was rational enough to know that Tang Beixuan didn't lose his life because of her. Zhang Wuying was just pushing the blame on her to cope with her loss, but what the old woman didn't understand was that it was also hard for the empress to accept that her brother was truly gone.
Tang Wanyu looked worriedly at her younger sister before deciding to pull their 'mother' away from Moyu. Thankfully, Zhang Wuying didn't resist and allowed her eldest daughter to drag her away from the couple.
"I was sure she said she didn't want to come here. I wonder what changed her mind." Zhang Jiren took a seat next to Feng Tianyi and crossed his legs looking around nonchalantly.
"She probably wanted to see with her own eyes if Beixuan's death is true. But to think that she blames Moyu for this? Ridiculous!" Feng Tianyi replied as he balled his hands into fists. It didn't matter if Tang Moyu didn't react to Zhang Wuying's insult, but as her husband, how can Feng Tianyi easily let Zhang Wuying off?
'Just wait until this passes, I'll make sure you'll regret insulting my wife!'
Tang Moyu might have kept her silence, but who could truly tell that she wasn't in anguish? Like everyone else who loved Tang Beixuan, of course she was also devastated by what happened to him.
"Moyu, I think it's time for you to return to your room." He told his wife. Tang Moyu only nodded her head before glancing at Tang Beixuan's casket. Following her gaze, Feng Tianyi saw the sadness in his wife's eyes.
"Do you want to see Beixuan for the last time?" He asked. The empress gave him a slight nod in response. No matter how many times she looked at it, the truth hadn't truly sunk in her mind. Was she hallucinating? Had she truly woken up only to find out that her brother was dead?
Feng Tianyi pushed her wheelchair and helped her up so she could see Tang Beixuan for the last time. Zhang Wuying wanted to stop her from getting closer to her son, but Tang Wanyu held her arm and shook her head.
After tonight, they wouldn't be able to see their brother, so there's no reason for Zhang Wuying to stop Moyu from seeing him. Tang Moyu could barely see her brother from her semi-seated position, but she persisted as much as she could to get a glimpse of Tang Beixuan. Feng Tianyi then helped her sit again and gave her some space to be alone with Tang Beixuan. He knew that she needed it.
Tang Moyu allowed her tears to flow. She swore that this would be the last time she would lose a loved one in front of her eyes. She swore that whoever was responsible for Beixuan's death would pay a hefty price for it. She would never stop until she got the justice her brother deserved.
"Beixuan, I'm sorry it turned out this way." She reached out with her good arm to touch the glass covering his casket. "You've been a good brother to me, a good uncle to my children…" Her words trailed off as her emotions got the best of her.
Li Meili appeared behind her and looked at her lover for the last time. There were so many things she wanted to say to him, so many plans they have yet to fulfill, but Tang Beixuan had already left her on her own.
"I'll make sure Meili will never be alone. I'll take care of her from now on." She heard Tang Moyu say, causing more tears to spill from Li Meili's eyes. Li Meili covered her mouth and wept along with her best friend. No one could understand them but each other. There were things left unsaid, but it didn't matter anymore.
"You go and rest now, Brother. I'll take care of everything from now on." Tang Moyu promised her brother.
Aside from the overwhelming grief that struck her, Tang Moyu was really angry. She wanted to know what had she done wrong to lose Tang Beixuan like this? Her brother was an innocent bystander who lost his life because of some sc.u.m who couldn't let go of his revenge.
"Goodbye, Beixuan. I hope in our next life, you will still be my brother," was Tang Moyu's parting words before allowing her husband to take her away, bringing her back to her hospital room for her scheduled medication, leaving Li Meili alone with her brother.
"Beixuan, you're really leaving me like this, huh?" Li Meili chuckled as her eyes clouded with tears. "You are so unfair. So unfair to me."
