Chapter 653 - Goodbye, Beloved (3)
When Tang Moyu finally opened her eyes, panic surged through her as she struggled to instinctively sit up and saw that she was in an unfamiliar room. She could only guess that it was one of the private wards of the hospital she and her siblings had been taken to.
She inhaled sharply, disbelief washing through her veins as she remembered the reason why she had ended up in this place. Her body hurt like hell, as if she was hit by an oncoming truck… well, she was. It made sense why she was having a hard time turning her head and could feel constriction on her arm.
She could hear a steady beeping sound as she swirled her head towards the machine that was showing her vitals with an IV line stuck on her right hand.
She turned her eyes to her left and saw Feng Tianyi seated on a chair next to her bed, holding her uninjured hand. He must have dozed off while waiting for her to wake up. He looked exhausted in his slumped state. He must have been worried and horrified when the news of the accident reached him.
She wasn't sure how long she was unconscious as the last thing she could remember was asking the attending physician in the ER to take a look at her younger brother.
"T-Tianyi…" Tang Moyu called her husband, slightly giving his hand a squeeze to wake him up. Her voice sounded a little raspy from the distraught state she was in.
Feng Tianyi stirred in his sleep. He cracked an eye open, wondering what woke him up. He suddenly shot up in his seat and looked wide eyed into her wide eyes.
"Moyu." His wife had been unconscious for over twenty four hours. The doctors told him that it would take ten to twelve hours before she wakes up after her surgery, but as hours passed, Tang Moyu remained asleep, which was enough for him and Zhang Jiren to panic a little, wondering if her surgery was really successful.
"Everything alright? How's my Wan Jie and Beixuan?" Tang Moyu hurriedly asked, wanting to know her siblings' condition.
Feng Tianyi remained silent, his eyes avoiding her gaze. There were no words that could describe the pain that shot through Tang Moyu as she clearly understood what her husband's silence meant.
"Where? Where's everyone?" She rasped out.
No matter how bad the news was, she could only suck it up and face it bravely. Tang Moyu ignored the other question that was bugging her to ask. She didn't think she could muster enough courage to ask Feng Tianyi about the details of what had happened right now.
"They… they went to see Beixuan for the last time…" Feng Tianyi hated that he was the one to break this awful news to his wife. He knew how close his wife was to her siblings and he also felt saddened that Tang Beixuan had lost his life too soon.
Besides Tang Moyu and Tang Wanyu's grief for their younger brother, Li Meili would also be broken by the sudden death of her lover. Feng Tianyi pitied Li Meili. The two were supposed to get engaged and married after her competition, but all of Tang Beixuan's preparations were for naught now as he wouldn't be able to wake up and ask for her hand in marriage.
How was she supposed to bid goodbye to her beloved? Feng Tianyi didn't know the answer as he was sure he would lose his sanity if Tang Moyu had died in that car accident.
Tang Moyu froze still, her jaws slackening as her eyes turned misty. However, no tears managed to roll down her cheeks. The empress remained calm and composed, not allowing her sadness to devour her from the inside.
"I see… Then we should also go and see them…" She inhaled raggedly and forced her eyes to look at the floor. The reality that she would have to wake up to every single day from now on, knowing that her brother had died… Tang Moyu was truly devastated from the inside.
Feng Tianyi gauged her reaction, seeing the conflicting emotions crossing on her face. A sob threatened to lurch from her, but Tang Moyu managed to bite it down. She refused to break down right now.
There was an awkward silence between them as they were too deep in their own thoughts. Feng Tianyi was wondering what he could do to help lessen the pain and grief that Tang Moyu was facing starting from this day, while Tang Moyu regretted that she wasn't able to do anything to save her little brother's life.
"Can I go and see him?" She spoke softly when Feng Tianyi remained unmoved in his seated position. He wasn't sure if this was the right time for Tang Moyu to leave her room and see her brother's remains, but he couldn't truly deny her of anything she asked for.
"Give me a moment. I need to ask for permission from your doctor. I'll see what I can do." Feng Tianyi finally said, pulling himself up, giving his wife a quick glance before stepping out of the room. The only thing he could do was not leave her side at the moment. This was the time his wife needed him the most and he wouldn't fail her this time.
Tang Moyu lowered her head, gritted her teeth as her fist tightly clenched the blanket that pooled on her l.a.p. Why did she have to lose her brother? If people wanted revenge on her or Feng Tianyi, they shouldn't have dragged innocent people like Tang Beixuan into their schemes!
This wasn't the first time she lost a family member, but losing Beixuan was way more painful than losing her own father. Her mind refused to believe thathe was gone.
What wouldn't she give up if she was able to have Tang Beixuan's life in return? However, she knew that thinking about what-ifs and blaming herself wouldn't change anything.
