“Who Did This?”
It was another disciple who answered. “Elder, there was no one else in the car. I only saw Elder Nie.”
When they heard this, the Cabinet Elders turned to Yao Tang in confusion.
If she hadn’t brought those people with her, then where were they?
“Why didn’t you take them as hostages as well?”
It wasn’t easy for them to gain the upper hand against the Green Cloud Pavilion.
Elder Xu was planning to take advantage of the situation and interrogate those men.
But Yao Tang only waved her hand nonchalantly. “Those people are still in the same place we left them. It’s too troublesome to bring them along.”
The elders looked at each other.
Yao Tang and President Tan left their enemies, just like that?
“What if they escaped?” Elder Li asked. “It’s no different from releasing a captured tiger back into the mountains, is it?”
Since they had defeated the enemy, they should have just brought them back. They could extract some valuable information regarding the Green Cloud Pavilion.
If they just let them go, it might prove to be a fatal mistake later down the line.
“Don’t worry, those people won’t be able to escape.”
Yao Tang spoke calmly and sipped her tea.
Even so, the elders were worried. If the Green Cloud Pavilion found out about this, they might refuse to exchange Elder Chen back with them.
They could have used those extra henchmen to leverage their goal. After all, Elder Nie was nothing compared to Elder Chen.
“Xiao Zhao, gather back all the disciples and send a group to the place of ambush. Have them take a look at the current situation.”
“Yes, Master!”
The disciple who had brought Elder Nie nodded and prepared to leave.
Yao Tang raised an eyebrow at Elder Xu. “I’m telling you, it’s too much trouble. Is this really necessary?”
Those people were no longer of any use, anyway. They were either dead or disabled. They would be much more useful as fertilizer to those fields.
Elder Xu shook his head and smiled kindly. “You have nothing to fear. We have strength in numbers. It should be no trouble at all.”
After saying that, Elder Xu gathered all the Cabinet disciples, picked out ten people and had them fully armed, then gave them charge of the Cabinet’s vehicles to drive to the location.
With ten capable disciples, it should be absolutely safe.
After all, these were the experts of the Cabinet’s spiritual teachings. They could easily capture those puny men from the Green Cloud Pavilion.
Even President Tan was able to subdue them, so it should be a piece of cake for these ten.
Yao Tang gave them the details of the location and said nothing else.
After seeing the disciples off, the elders returned to the main hall and discussed how best to deal with the traitor, Cai Cheng. They also deliberated on how the exchange with the Green Cloud Pavilion should go.
Soon enough, Elder Xu’s phone rang. It was a video call from the disciple called Xiao Zhao.
Curious, the other elders crowded around Elder Xu. Nobody video called under normal circumstances. If the disciples needed anything, they usually just called.
Elder Xu quickly answered the call.
Xiao Zhao’s face appeared on the screen, and he was sporting a rather strange expression.
“What’s wrong?” Elder Xu demanded before the young man could speak. “Did something happen? Did you run into some trouble?”
Elder Li craned his neck over Elder Xu’s shoulder and said, “If you’ve encountered a problem you can’t solve, just tell us.”
The elders waited with some anticipation, but Xiao Zhao seemed to be having difficulty explaining the situation.
In the end, he went for the simplest approach. “I don’t know how to explain it. Please take a look for yourselves, Elders!”
With that, the camera panned out to the field, showing the bodies on the ground.
Most of them were motionless and were likely lifeless as well.
Only a few were still gasping for breath, but they seemed incapable of doing anything else.
Needless to say, the elders were shocked by the sight. They didn’t expect this at all. Had these people lost their strength?
But they were also wounded. It looked like they had been cut and stabbed in various places.
That meant that they hadn’t been attacked by spiritual energy alone.
This invalidated their earlier guess involving President Tan.
He hadn’t fought alone, there must have been at least one other person beside him.
And that person was incredibly powerful, judging by the injuries they had inflicted upon the enemies.
“Who did this?” Elder Li asked in a daze.
If it wasn’t President Tan, then who else could it possibly be?
