Chapter 214 : Expelled from the Sect
Liu Liang chose that moment to walk up to Yu Jing. “Allow me to explain, Dr. Yu Jing. This young lady doesn’t have an invitation. Simply put, she is an intruder to this event.” Despite his bravado, his voice was laced with unmistakable fear.
This great master had accepted the Jiangdong Group’s invitation in exchange for an exorbitant amount of money. They couldn’t afford to offend or neglect the old man.
Liu Liang turned to the security guards and was about to order them to dragYao Tangout whenYu Jingcleared his throat.
He glanced nervously at Yao Tangbefore saying, “It looks like everyone has misunderstood. This girl is a rookie that I brought with me. Her medical skills are superb, and her talents are unmatched. I brought her here so that she can familiarize herself with the playing field and learn a thing or two. Naturally, she is seated in the second row, as I am.”
Yu Jing glanced at her again when he was done, as though seeking for her approval.
After all, they still couldn’t expose her identity to the world.
“What? So it was Dr. Yu who brought her here?”
“But how is that possible? Cheng Weiis Dr. Yu’s number one pupil, right? She herself said that the girl is only a high school student who doesn’t deserve to be in the second row.”
“Exactly! I initially thought that Dr. Yu instructed Cheng Weito chase her out, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.”
“What’s going on? As Dr. Yu’s pupil, Cheng Weishould have known that he invited the girl to the conference. How come she didn’t have any idea? There must be something going on behind the scenes.”
“Ha! I bet Cheng Weigot jealous of Miss Yao’s talent. She probably used the opportunity when Dr. Yu is gone to chase Miss Yao out of the conference. How vicious!”
The crowd began to discuss again, but this time, their gazes were directed at Cheng Wei.
The woman in question had already been flustered, but the snide looks now made her anxious. Her palms began to sweat, and it was all she could do not to cower.
She looked at Yu Jing, praying that he would save her some face in front of her peers. To everyone’s surprise,Yao Tang, who never bothered to defend herself, actually spoke up.
“She ordered the security guards to chase me out just now.”
Her expression was still distant and aloof, but she did raise a brow at Yu Jing.
Yao Tang didn’t like arguing with the likes ofCheng Wei, but she simply couldn’t let this incident slide. More importantly,Cheng Weiwas technically a former grand-pupil of hers.
As the senior, it would be a great disservice to their entire sect if she just pardoned this insult.
Yao Tang’s eyes darkened. She tapped her delicate fingers against the surface of the table, the crisp sound strangely ominous to the onlookers’ ears.
Cheng Wei found herself trembling for some reason. She felt a crushing weight press against her, and her instincts were screaming for her to flee.
Yu Jing pressed his lips together and let out a cry of lament in his heart. Cheng Wei had really screwed him over this time. If his master was well and truly angered, then there would be hell to pay.
He looked around him and waved his hand frantically. “Everyone, you are all mistaken!”
Those who had been whispering among themselves instantly shut up and turned their attention to him.
So did Cheng Wei. Her eyes lit up at the thought that her master was finally going to clear her name. She started to relax, only to be horrified in the next second as the old man continued speaking.
“I no longer have anything to do with Cheng Wei. She has been expelled from the sect. I disown her as my pupil. We are nothing more than colleagues in the same field, though as an elder, I do hope that she learns the value of respect in the future.”
Yu Jing said the last few words with emphasis, coupled with a sharp, warning glare atCheng Wei.
All at once, everyone burst into an uproar.
A bunch of guests took out their phones and proceeded to film Cheng Wei, who had gone pale as a sheet. Her lips were bloodless, though she couldn’t seem to utter a single word.
Getting expelled from the sect was as good as getting branded as someone with questionable character and skills.
