Chapter 152 : Talking Big
How could so much be stored in that tiny brain?
It was really admirable.
Everyone around her was dumbfounded.
What was happening?
Why was Tan Mo involved in Finance as well?
Wasn’t she a History major?
Wait, no… If she had been a History major, why would she have joined Professor Guo’s team? Their major was the Chinese language.
But if she was a Chinese major student, why would she sit in for a History lecture?
Everyone was befuddled by the situation.
“I can do it.” Tan Mo gently massaged her temples. “I’m currently memorizing the book ‘Warring States Literature’. I don’t think it’s very difficult.”
The corners of Professor Zhao’s lips twitched.
“Warring States Literature” wasn’t difficult?
Memorizing the entire Chinese dictionary wasn’t as difficult as memorizing “Warring States Literature”.
Most important, the words in the book followed a unique pattern that was difficult to remember.
Tan Mo had said that it wasn’t difficult…?
Although the students around her all majored in History, they were all aware of “Warring States Literature”.
Although they didn’t dare to utter a word, everyone was grumbling to themselves.
She really talked big. The moment she had opened her mouth, she’d claimed to have memorized “Warring States Literature”.
Who was she trying to scare?
There were even some students who vowed to themselves that if she had really memorized it, they would eat a pile of dog sh*t as a penalty.
As these thoughts filled their heads, Tan Mo saw Pu Xinyan’s eyes twinkle. “Really? Then quickly finish memorizing it. You don’t even need to input it on the computer, just write it straight on the whiteboard.”
With Tan Mo around, it really saved them a lot of trouble.
Everyone was stunned.
Someone actually f*cking believed her!
This Senior Pu didn’t seem like a fool.
“How long do you need to finish memorizing it?” Pu Xinyan was full of anticipation.
“I’ve already finished memorizing half.” In actuality, she was halfway finished with reading it. She only needed to read something once to memorize it.
However, Tan Mo didn’t dare to tell them all this.. She didn’t want to scare them.
“So fast!” Pu Xinyan widened her eyes.
“I should be able to be a little more productive this afternoon,” Tan Mo said.
To be honest, she considered what she had accomplished to have been quite slow compared to what she could accomplish normally.
The reading was too dry, and Tan Mo found it quite meaningless reading it.
She would read it a little at a time.
If she kept reading too much, she would definitely fall asleep.
Everyone: “……”
Half?
You must be kidding…
This Pu Xinyan must be someone working with Tan Mo.
Someone couldn’t help but ask, “Tan Mo, are you a Chinese major?”
Why would someone studying Chinese come and compete with them? They were History majors.
Wasn’t that insane?
Someone from a completely unrelated major had come to compete with them. That was despicable!
“Nope.” Tan Mo shook her head. “I’m majoring in Finance.”
Everyone: “……”
Why would someone studying Finance get involved in the Chinese Department’s activities?
Simply crashing one other course was apparently insufficient. Did you have to crash our History course as well?
Some people couldn’t take it anymore.
This time, they didn’t question Tan Mo directly. They directed their questions at Pu Xinyan. “Senior Pu, the Chinese major has so many people. If you need to find someone to help you out, you can easily find someone. Why…would you recruit someone studying Finance?”
These specialties were completely unrelated.
“Who said Tan Mo was just helping out?” Pu Xinyan blinked. It wasn’t wrong to say that she was helping out. But the student asking this question clearly wasn’t implying this.
They had assumed that Tan Mo was doing all the menial work.
“That’s…not it?” The female student who had asked the question suddenly felt uncertain.
“Tan Mo is the backbone of our team.” Pu Xinyan stared at them strangely. “You didn’t assume that Tan Mo was merely doing all the administrative work for us, did you?
“We are a small team that is combing through all the documents pertaining to the Warring States. These documents were all written in a script originating from the Warring States Era. Since all of you study history, you must definitely be aware of how complicated the ancient script is. It gives us all headaches, especially when we need to sort through it.” Pu Xinyan smiled brightly. She stroked Tan Mo’s little head and continued, “Thanks to Tan Mo, we have become a lot more productive. She recognizes more words than all of us combined.”
Everyone sat with gaping mouths. They were shocked beyond belief.
A student majoring in Finance had popped by a History lecture. She had also joined a research team in the Chinese Department. Now they were being told that she even recognized words from the Warring States Era.
“Hold on.” A student suddenly remembered something. “A while back, I heard that a year-one student had joined your team, Senior Pu. Is she…”
“It’s Tan Mo.” Pu Xinyan didn’t wait for him to finish speaking. She immediately admitted to it. “Do you really think that there is any other year-one student who could accomplish what Tan Mo can accomplish? No one can join our team if they are not capable. Of course, as long as someone is capable enough, they would be able to join us. It doesn’t matter what year they are in.”
Pu Xinyan could see that all these students were in disbelief.
magic Hence she’d decided to get straight to the point.
Although she was doing research, she wasn’t an inflexible person.
She was aware that many of her juniors were competing for a spot.
Even if they weren’t specifically gunning for Professor Guo’s team, they were still aiming to join another research team.
Tan Mo was from the year below them. However, she had been able to join Professor Guo’s exclusive team. Anyone who could do this of course would do it.
Pu Xinyan was completely aware that many people would be unwilling to accept this.
But did it matter if they couldn’t accept it?
Tan Mo was capable and talented.
“But she majors in Finance!” More and more questions streamed in.
“Does that matter? You wish that you were as talented as Tan Mo. Actually, you don’t even need to be as proficient as Tan Mo, as long as you understand a tiny bit of the Warring States script, I wouldn’t even care if you were a History or a Math student. You’d be qualified as a prospective candidate for the team.
They would merely be prospective candidates that had to undergo further consideration. They couldn’t join straight away.
Pu Xinyan was being quite prudent.
She didn’t mess around.
If there had been really someone out there who met the criteria, she would have been put in an awkward position.
She wasn’t in the position to decide who could join.
However, Pu Xinyan was okay.
Because not a single student present knew the script.
Everyone started to feel apprehensive.
They were merely second-year students. They knew nothing.
Simply looking at those words gave them a headache.
It wasn’t even part of the syllabus that they would be tested on. Why would they study it?
If they came across it in the future, they could easily refer to a dictionary.
Although no one spoke up, it was easy to read their expressions.
Pu Xinyan chuckled and continued bluntly, “This is the reason why you guys are inferior to Tan Mo. This is why you guys weren’t chosen.”
Pu Xinyan stopped speaking to them. She tugged at Tan Mo’s hand and said, “Tan Mo, let’s go.”
Before she left, she didn’t forget to bid farewell to Professor Zhao.
When Professor Zhao saw Tan Mo being dragged off by Pu Xinyan, he shook his head helplessly. “Professor Guo has really poached her first.”
Everyone: “……”
What did Professor Zhao mean by that?
Professor Zhao didn’t say anything else. Everything had already been explained rather sufficiently. He immediately turned around to leave.
Tan Mo had never expected her responsibilities to become so heavy even though she had just matriculated.
Apart from her commitments to Professor Guo’s team, she also needed to memorize “Warring States Literature”. What’s more, she needed to head to the library to study while simultaneously balancing the syllabus for her Finance major.
Although she had a photographic memory, she needed to manage so many commitments. Her time was completely packed.
Fortunately, Professor Zhao hadn’t gotten her to join his team yet.
