Chapter 407 Fate
?407 Fate
On the Human continent, far away from the Black Ocean, A young girl no taller than 4.5 ft stood in the dark void of space hidden from the outside world, her abyss-like eyes looking through the barrier of space at a towering hill in the real space.
On her right shoulder was seated a small dark and silver owl, and on her left side was a pearlescent white, long-haired forest cat with deep crimson eyes, and both creatures were staring at the hill.
"My Queen, This place is also crawling with Demon Slaves, so freeing my Brother without making your presence known will be impossible," A childish voice sounded in the emptiness of the void.
"This is the eighth place in the protection of the demonic cult," Another youthful female voice, no older than ten, belonging to the cat, chimed in.
'Zlarion, The Demons are likely planning something with the Choas Genrels, or they have discovered my absence and are taking you as more of a threat, knowing that we could be an obstacle to their plan,'
'But what could be their plan,' The cat said, her voice being mature, nothing like the youthful tone, as she voiced her curiosity but doing so telepathically with the owl.
'Pergesilix, I have abandoned my old name, so get used to referring to me as Sparkle, the name given to me by my queen, and also get comfortable with your own name,' Sparkle said, his archaic voice showing a bit of displeasure.
'I have taken the name of Lioness given to me by my Venerable Queen, but it will take me some time to forget my old name,' The cat replied, her thoughts resonating with a mix of loyalty and nostalgia.
'To share my thoughts on the demons, if their plan really involves the Choas Genrels, then I believe they are planning to kill the eight generals imprisoned on the human continent, and maybe even the majority of the Chaos spawns,' 'The chaos spawns imprisoned all over the world are of Captain and above Rank, and while killing them is hard, it is not truly a challenge for even the weakest of Elemental Rulers,'
'The Chaos spawns were imprisoned and not killed because, after their death, each of them will crumble to dust and release chaos energy, which from the weaker spawns is harmless, but the chaos energy of Captain and above Rank will spread like a plague, being destructive to every life form,'
'If the demons plan to destroy the human continent, then they can surely do so by releasing a plague of potent chaos energy,'
'But this conclusion raises the question of what purpose a continent plunged in uncontrolled chaos and ultimately headed for partial annihilation will serve to the demons,' Sparkle said, a trace of anger evident in his thoughts.
'It would be troublesome, but I believe that it is more important that we keep the presence of our Queen a secret, even if it means abandoning most of our brothers and sisters,' Lioness said, a tone of seriousness underlying her words.
'I understand your reasoning, but it would be a devastating blow to our queen if the human continent is plunged toward its destruction,' Sparkle said, evident concern in his ancient voice.
'General, You do know she is destined to be a Choas Queen, and what destiny awaits her,' Lioness shared, understanding their meaning but also knowing that things will need to change.
'It is a concern for the future,' Sparkle said before he thought of something that if he shared with any of his comrades, they would only laugh at his wishfulness.
'Maybe she will not need to become the destroyer, like her predecessors,' Sparkle mused, keeping the thought to himself.
"My Queen, I want your permission to send Lioness to gather intel on the demonic cult, as I fear they have some nefarious plans for my kind and the human continent," Sparkle said in his childish voice, yet it still carried an unquestioning authority.
Alex had changed his life in its entirety, undoing many of his remorses from his previous, but fate seemed determined to put him to the test as, while saved from the fate of slumber, his sister was walking a path that could eventually lead her to the point of no return.
----------------
"Hey Ven, maybe I am overthinking it, but I think that something is going on between Saahira and Andrei," Alex said, his voice low as a whisper, as he watched Andrei getting a scolding for trying to enter the Tomb for the fourth time by the lovely lady in their group. It had been close to fifteen hours since the entire group entered the Legacy Tomb and close to six hours since Alex exited after clearing the final trial and denying the legacy.
The second trial was as good as Alex hoped it would be, and even though it was not an experience he would like to repeat, it was truly helpful.
The third trial required Alex to show his learning ability, and even with a mind pushed to exhaustion, he cleared it with flying colors, making him eligible for the legacy, which he declined and returned to the outside with decent rewards.
"I've also observed the odd worry Saahira has for Andrei, and perhaps she's aware of her feelings as she spent quite some time around him, but our big oaf is completely oblivious to the situation," Venedikt said, confirming Alex was not seeing things.
"Well, good for them," Alex said, happy for his brother.
"How long before you plan to join our ranks," Alex said, inquiring about getting Awakened.
"A few more days," Venedikt said, a smile gracing his face.
Only Hecate was inside the Legacy Chamber, and at this point, it was confirmed that she would be the one to acquire the legacy.
Even though none besides Alex reached the end and was eligible for the legacy, both his brother and one of the other group members had reached the final trial.
So everyone knew that one could only spend so much time inside before being declared a failure and teleported out.
The brothers continued to have random conversations while waiting in expectancy of the world's announcement that Hecate was acquiring the legacy.
While the situation was a breeze for them, the members of the Ravenglades guild were drowning in expectancy as the tension among them was so palpable it could be sliced with a knife.
After three more hours, every player and NPC who had not blocked the announcements was alerted by the World announcement, and with it, every member of Ravenglades guild breathed a sigh of solace as the hanging sword was finally lifted from their neck.
[World Announcement]
[Congratulations to the player Hecate for acquiring the Legacy of Oberon Orpheus, the Dragon Monarch of the Night Sky!]
The announcement repeated itself three times, and before the last one even ended, the lady responsible for it arrived at the outside entrance with a flash of light.
Hecate was surrounded by her guild members, the air alive with their excitement, with everyone congratulating her for acquiring the legacy, and while the raven-haired lady held a smile, her eyes held conflicting emotions of fear and anxiety.
