Chapter 325: Silly Girl, Why Did You Run After Saying All That?

Wei Zilin caught her red-handed, so Xu Moyan was especially embarrassed and weak-kneed. The roots of her ears were completely red, and in Wei Zilin’s eyes, she was absolutely adorable. His lips moved from her eyes to her ears.

Xu Moyan thought it was far too dangerous for the two of them to keep lying here like this, so she gave him a little shove. “The cake’s almost done, I need to go and get it.”

“You didn’t sleep well last night, so aren’t you sleepy now?” Wei Zilin did not push her too far, either. He stopped kissing her everywhere, but sometimes he still could not stop himself, so he pecked her once on the tip of her nose after every sentence.

As he pulled her into his embrace again, Xu Moyan hurriedly shook her head. “I’m not sleepy. You… You should go back to sleep, though.”

“Won’t you sleep with me for a bit? Otherwise, you’ll have to sneak in again later once I’m asleep,” Wei Zilin said with a smile.

Xu Moyan, “…”

Just like that, he had the leverage to tease her with.

“I didn’t… plan to do it,” Xu Moyan mumbled. “I just couldn’t help it when I saw you were asleep.”

Wei Zilin felt as though he had just been catcalled, and he could not help but laugh. Throwing his dignity to the wind, he wrapped his arms and legs around her, burying his face in her neck. “Sleep with me for a while longer, please? I’ve never heard of a man sleeping alone in the middle of a date.”

Xu Moyan could not help but burst out laughing too. He sounded so hurt.

Just as she was about to agree, Wei Zilin’s phone rang.

That phone call came at just the wrong moment, so Wei Zilin did not look pleased, and he did not feel very happy either. His grumpy expression somehow ticked Xu Moyan’s funny bone even further, though.

Wei Zilin gave Xu Moyan an exasperated look. This was clearly schadenfreude.

When that thought occurred to him, Wei Zilin chuckled a little too. Scratching the tip of her nose with his long, fair, bamboo-like fingers, he turned over and let her go, reaching his hand out for his phone near the headboard.

When he saw the incoming call notification on the screen, he glanced at Xu Moyan with a smile. “It’s my mother calling.”.

She had no idea what it was about yet, but Xu Moyan was already getting nervous.

That was… her future mother-in-law!

She wanted to run, but Wen Zilin caught her by the waist before he finally picked up. “Hey, Mom.”

“…”

“Yep, it’s true.”

“…”

“She’s not that random crazy type, don’t worry. She’s a very well-mannered girl, perfect for starting a family with.”

“…”

“I know, but we just started dating, and I’ll scare her if I just bring her home now. She isn’t even really used to being my girlfriend yet, so I need to let her take her time.”

By now, Xu Moyan knew exactly why Wei Zilin’s mother had called.

She must have found out about that fiasco on Weibo. After all, Wei Zilin made it perfectly clear with his announcement, so there was no way she did not know. That was probably why she had purposely called him to ask.

She was a little insecure since she had no idea if Wei Zilin’s mother would accept her.

With Wei Zilin’s qualities, he could have his pick of many far more qualified women.

She did not know what the person on the other end of the call was saying, so Xu Moyan grew even more anxious. As she watched, Wei Zilin’s expression grew silent, and he even fell silent. Without realizing it, Xu Moyan held her breath.

“Tell Dad that it’s fine. It’s not like this is anything we need to hide. When I go back, I’ll explain everything to him in detail.”

“…”

“Don’t worry, you’ll love her,” Wei Zilin said with a smile, his joy lighting up his eyes and warming up his face again.

When he hung up, he saw Xu Moyan looking at him nervously.

Wei Zilin took Xu Moyan’s hand and explained, “That call was from my mom.”

Xu Moyan nodded. She knew that much.

“She saw my post and asked me if I really had a girlfriend, or if I made that up to quell the rumors. I told her it was real. Like most mothers, she worries about her daughter-in-law’s personality, wondering if I found myself a good girl. She doesn’t want me to get fooled by those golddiggers out there, and she’s even more worried that I chose my girlfriend based on her looks, only to break up with her a few months later.”

Xu Moyan did not know what to say, so she just listened quietly.

She had complete faith in Wei Zilin.

In the beginning, she was nervous, but for some reason, when she heard Wei Zilin’s slow and mild voice, warm and gentle, easy and relaxed as though this was nothing major, Xu Moyan began to let down her guard as well. Slowly, she began to ease up, her heart resuming its usual rhythm.

Still, since when did his girlfriend become a daughter-in-law?

“That’s why I told her you’re a well-mannered girl, perfect for starting a family with.” Wei Zilin held her hand and transmitted his warmth from his palm into hers. Unlike earlier, he no longer tried to kiss her after every other sentence.

He knew she was very nervous, so this was not the right time to tease her. Instead, he needed her to feel safe.

“She was very happy to hear that, and she wants me to bring you home so she can meet you,” Wei Zilin said.

Xu Moyan knew that Wei Zilin’s mother was actually still a little uncertain. That was why his mother wanted to judge her with her own eyes.

“I thought you’d get nervous. We just started dating, and you’re not even used to our current relationship yet, so there’s a chance you wouldn’t dare to meet my family,” Wei Zilin said. “Still, I’m not against the idea. If you’re okay with it, I’ll arrange for a time and we can go back for a visit.”

He said that to reassure her, so that she knew it was not that he did not want to bring her home. It really was only because he was worried she would be uneasy.

Xu Moyan knew that, so she was perfectly at ease. That was why she could tell him directly, “Yeah, I’m sure I’ll get nervous if I go now. Why don’t we wait a while? I don’t think it’ll be too long. Once you think we’re ready, I’ll go with you.”

“Sure.” Wei Zilin squeezed her hand with a smile and then tilted his body to kiss her again.

“Will your father find it hard to accept?” That was the impression Xu Moyan got from the conversation earlier.

Wei Zilin mulled it over for a bit before he said, “Our family isn’t as harmonious as the Yan and Qi families. My father used to be very ambitious, and he always wanted to take my uncle’s place. In the end, he made a mistake and my grandfather punished him by sending him out of the country for a few years. He only returned last year, and he had given up on his wild plans. His temper has improved a lot, too. I guess he still believes in things like class differences, but he’s changed a lot from what he used to be, so it shouldn’t be too hard to persuade him. That’s why you don’t have to worry. You can just leave it to me.”

Xu Moyan nodded. To be honest, it was not like her worrying would make any difference.

If Wei Zilin’s father did not accept her, then there was no point in her fretting about it now. It would be an exercise in futility.

“You…” Xu Moyan considered it, but eventually, she gathered up the courage to say, “You don’t have to face it all alone. If your father doesn’t agree, I’ll do whatever I can to help. I’ll stand with you.”

She was so nervous that she began twisting her fingers subconsciously. Such a declaration made her extremely embarrassed, and she lowered her head, too scared to look at Wei Zilin’s reaction. She wondered if he would think she was being over-ambitious.

“You don’t have to carry all the burdens yourself. I can do it too, so you don’t have to rush in headlong.” After she said that, she still did not dare to look at Wei Zilin. With her head lowered, she rushed out, forgetting that her slippers were still at the door. Just like that, she ran to the kitchen barefoot.

Wei Zilin laughed as he watched her retreating back, his smile filled with warmth.

When his gaze landed on the slippers at the door, however, his emission turned serious and he got out of bed. He bent down and picked up her slippers, following her to the kitchen. There, he saw her staring dazedly at the freshly-baked cake on the table.

“You should put your shoes on first. You’re a girl, so how could you be so careless? If your feet get cold, it’ll really affect you,” Wei Zilin said, and he actually crouched down, putting the slippers right in front of her. He even picked up her foot and put it into the slippers.

“There’s a floor heater, so it’s really warm. I don’t feel cold at all.” Xu Moyan put on the slippers and watched at Wei Zilin straightened up. For some reason, he was looking straight at her, his gaze deep and gentle. Xu Moyan trembled slightly, cowing a little under his gaze.

“Even so, you shouldn’t.” Wei Zilin was not usually this strict with Xu Moyan, refusing to give any way at all.

Xu Moyan nodded obediently. “Okay.”

Wei Zilin circled her waist. “Silly girl, why did you run after saying all that?”

“…” Xu Moyan could not say anything in response, so she just kept playing with the buttons on his shirt.

“It really isn’t as serious as you think. There isn’t any pressure you have to face, and it won’t be hard to convince my dad, either. He’ll love you as soon as he meets you, so you really don’t have to worry about anything,” Wei Zilin said.

“Really?” Xu Moyan did not quite believe that, but Wei Zilin looked so convinced that she began to relax.

“Trust me. I wouldn’t lie to you,” Wei Zilin said. When he saw that Xu Moyan was much more at ease now, he changed the subject. “Is the cake done?”

“I just need to add the buttercream and drizzle on the chocolate, then it’ll be done,” Xu Moyan said. “Aren’t you going to sleep anymore?”

“I’m wide awake now.” Wei Zilin pecked her lips. “You want to watch Massacre, right?”

“Yeah.” When she heard that, Xu Moyan’s eyes lit up. “Qi Shaofeng has a ton of lines in that one, that’s why I love it. When we watch it later, can you say those lines for me too?”

“Sure.” Wei Zilin laughed and nodded. “I’ll go get the iPad and connect it to the TV.”

With that, he went and grabbed his iPad, searching up Massacre on a streaming site. After that, he turned on the TV box, connected it to the WiFi, and projected the iPad’s display on the TV.

Once everything was ready, he played the movie and paused at the production company’s logo near the beginning. Once Xu Moyan was done, they could watch it together.

Finally, he returned to the kitchen.

“Oh yeah, I was on Weibo earlier, and I saw that Han Zhuoli and the gang started following me,” Xu Moyan said she cut the cake into three pieces, covering them with chocolate and buttercream respectively before putting them back together again.

“Can I look at your phone?” As Wei Zilin asked, he dug his finger into the butter cream and licked it. It was extremely fragrant and not very sweet, so he lowered his head and put the remaining cream in his mouth into Xu Moyan’s.

She had barely put in any sugar at all, but right now Xu Moyan thought it was unbearably sweet. That probably had nothing to do with the cream, though; the sweetness came from his lips.

When Wei Zilin let go of her lips, Xu Moyan was already dazed and dizzy, her mind muddled. There was a mist in her eyes, like the faint dew on the pistil of a delicate flower at dawn, pretty, sweet, and extremely lovable.

Wei Zilin’s finger subconsciously touched her lips lightly. Her lips were even redder than before, full and glistening from the kiss. The effect was much more beautiful than any lipgloss could achieve.

Right now, her mind was all over the place due to Wei Zilin’s kiss, but even if her mind was clear, Xu Moyan would never decline any of his requests.

She nodded and took her phone out for him obediently. “Do whatever you want. The pin number is 0625.”

As soon as she said that, Xu Moyan’s face turned scarlet. Wei Zilin’s warm and understanding smile made her feel awkward again.

Her emotions were all written on her face, and he could read her like a book. She felt as awkward as she would if she was standing in front of him naked.

When she was waiting for him in the house earlier, she had gotten bored and was playing with her phone. Her phone used a fingerprint lock, but when it became inconvenient to unlock her phone with her fingerprint, she could use a PIN number too.

Wei Zilin was not there at the time, so she could not add his fingerprint to her records. After giving it some thought, Xu Moyan changed her password to Wei Zilin’s birthday.

She had not expected Wei Zilin to ask to look at her phone now, so she instinctively replied and revealed her secret.

Without a moment’s hesitation, Wei Zilin took out his phone as well and changed the password to Xu Moyan’s birthday before handing the phone to Xu Moyan. “You can check my phone however you like, too. The password is your birthday.”

Xu Moyan held his phone but had no idea how to react. What did she want his phone for?

On the other hand, Wei Zilin took her phone perfectly naturally and took a seat at the side. Turning on her Weibo, he saw that Han Zhuoli and the others had followed her, so he followed them back.
