Chapter 281: He’s Obviously Jealous

Xu Moyan did not know what made her say something as ridiculous as this. “President Wei, with a voice as beautiful as yours, it’s a pity that you’re not a voice actor.”

Wei Zilin smiled lightly. “Really? Maybe I’m already used to my own voice, so I don’t think that. Nevertheless, nobody has ever told me that. You’re the first one to say that to my face.”

This was not exactly a lie since Xu Moyan was indeed the first one to say this to him in person.

Back then, Han Zhuoli had contacted him through WeChat to ask for the favor.

Wei Zilin fell deep into thought as his slender fingers drummed against the steering wheel.

Meanwhile, Xu Moyan was unsure on how to continue the conversation. After all, they were not exactly close friends so she dared not joked with him the way she would with a close friend.

Wei Zilin and Yan Beicheng were different. She was always scared of interacting with Yan Beicheng because she felt pressured, but she did not feel the same with Wei Zilin. Wei Zilin would treat those he was unfamiliar with politely and courteously, making him somewhat unapproachable.

However, familiarizing himself with them, he became as warm as a spring breeze, which made you feel comfortable and totally unpressured. In comparison to Yan Beicheng, she found Wei Zilin more amiable and approachable.

That was how Xu Moyan suddenly gained the courage to spit out something as straightforward as that.

Nevertheless, Xu Moyan still felt that they were not familiar enough to the point where she could joke with him casually.

Almost immediately, the car was filled with an awkward silence. Just as Xu Moyan was about to apologize for crossing the line, Wei Zilin replied with a slight smile. “Well, maybe I’ll give it a go if I ever have the chance.”

Xu Moyan suddenly felt a stream of warmth that encased her and made her feel as though she were wrapped up in Wei Zilin’s soothing voice.

‘How wonderful would it be to hear this voice every day? I would be the luckiest girl in the world,’ she thought.

Fans often had the benefit of having audio recordings of their male idol counting sheep or saying good morning and goodnight. There were so many other voice actors out there, but somehow she ended up getting a crush on the low-key, mysterious Yu Linling.

He did not even have a Weibo account, nor did he organize any activities. He had completely disappeared into thin air after the first movie, let alone release any audio recordings of him counting sheep or giving daily greetings.

Instinctively, Xu Moyan snuck an annoyed glance at Wei Zilin.

She had already thought it through. Yu Linling’s response during the interview last night did not mention how the name Yu Linling came up, but she figured it had something to do with his real name. Aside from that, he also mentioned that he had accepted the role of Qi Shaofeng as a favor to a friend.

Coincidentally, Wei Zilin friend, Han Zhuoli, was the producer of Massacre.

Yu Linling also said that he was only dubbing Massacre OL this time around as a favor to a friend once more. Massacre OL was produced by Nan Yin, which was led by Nan Jingheng, who, once again, coincidentally a friend of Wei Zilin.

On top of that, his voice was extremely recognizable, making the answer crystal clear now.

Xu Moyan was too nervous to think straight during lunch just now, but as she bathed in the warm afternoon sun, she finally came to a realization.

A realization which was almost immediately followed by shock. She instantly jerked her head in Wei Zilin’s direction as she stared at his side profile.

If he really was Yu Linling, that meant she had already liked him for six years. How was she going to face him again if her small crush on his beautiful voice began to grow?

It all started as a crush on an idol. Even then, she only knew him from her monitor screen since the internet sat between them; she did not know where he was from or where he currently lived. The crush was merely illusionary, so she only allowed herself to develop this minor crush as a means to entertain herself, but not to think any more beyond that.

However, Yu Linling was right before her now in the flesh. She never expected to meet him in real life one day, let alone for him to be someone who she was already acquainted with.

What should she do? Should she ask him upfront?

Her previous question was a test though, and Wei Zilin did not admit anything. He seemed to have no intention of revealing his true identity online either.

From this, it was quite clear that this man was extremely concerned about privacy, and he drew a clear line between his virtual and real life, with no intention of letting people know his separate identities. Therefore, even if she did ask, he might not admit the truth.

In fact, he might even get upset if she asked.

Still, this was the male Idol whom she had a crush on for the past six years!

Xu Moyan’s heart hammered inside her chest and she felt as if she was about to faint from a lack of oxygen. As she continued enjoying her view, the car suddenly stopped and Wei Zilin turned toward her.

After a short moment, she heard Wei Zilin’s soft voice. “Miss Xu, we have arrived at your office.”

Xu Moyan blinked rapidly as she finally came to, her gaze slowly meeting his.

Boom!

Xu Moyan’s brain exploded, and her face became completely red.

How could she have stared at him so intently to the point that she did not even notice that they had arrived at her office? And worst still, she got caught staring!

Feeling incredibly embarrassed, Xu Moyan lowered her head even more. How she wished Wei Zilin would just forget this had ever happened; she prayed hard in her head that he would not view her as some love-struck fool.

“Thank… Thank you… Thank you!” Xu Moyan said in a hurry before quickly opening the door to get out of the car.

Wei Zilin wanted to say something, but Xu Moyan did not give him the chance to do so. She turned around, facing her back to him as she quickly got ready to get out. However, before she could even get one foot out the door, she felt a strong force holding her down by the waist.

Xu Moyan, “…”

She looked down only to see that her seat belt was still clasped around her waist, and that in her hurry, she had forgotten to unbuckle it…

Xu Moyan simply closed her eyes out of embarrassment. ‘Out of sight, out of mind,’ she gently reminded herself.

Well to be fair… could she get even more embarrassed?

A melodic chuckle that seemed to resemble the trickling of jade pearls sounded out. It sounded identical to the voice she had heard on her computer last night and when she had lunch just now. It immediately made her weak in the knees.

To her utmost surprise, the voice seemed to be coming from close by to her, as if it was right beside her forehead. At that second, her eyes remained closed and she dared not open them. She was just like an ostrich as she just wanted to dig a hole in the ground and bury her head inside it so that she could continue pretending that this was not happening.

She felt a certain warmth move closer to her, and just as quickly as it had neared, it faded away.

As she felt her seat belt loosening, she heard Wei Zilin’s melodious voice once again. “There you go, it’s unbuckled now.”

Not bothering to care anymore, Xu Moyan covered her face with her hands, and after quickly muttering a thank you, she scurried out of the car.

Wei Zilin stared at the receding figure of Xu Moyan fleeing through the rearview mirror. Only once she had finally entered the entrance of the office did he face forward once again and drove away.

When he passed by Li Sheng later, he made no sign of stopping.

That night, Xu Moyan had to work overtime, so she called Zheng Yuntong to ask her not to bother waiting for her.

By the time she got home after work, it was already nine o’clock.

Zheng Yuntong was in the living room with a packet of cornflakes in her arms while watching some American TV series. She had connected the TV box to the television and was completely immersed in the show.

When she heard some noises coming from the door, Zheng Yuntong immediately threw the packet of cornflakes aside and ran to the door.

“You’re back!” Zheng Yuntong exclaimed excitedly as she gave Xu Moyan a big bear hug.

Although Zheng Yuntong was generally an enthusiastic person, she was not usually this excited.

This made Xu Moyan sense that something was amiss. She narrowed her eyes at her flatmate and asked, “What’s up? Why are you in such a good mood?”

“Eh, what did you have for dinner?” Zheng Yuntong responded with a question of her own.

“The department ordered takeaway together,” Xu Moyan answered, “What about you?”

“I had dumplings. You prepared them beforehand for nights that you’re busy so that I have something to eat, remember?” Zheng Yuntong replied cheekily.

Ever since she had started living with Xu Moyan, Zheng Yuntong no longer liked eating out.

Xu Moyan was an extremely good cook and the food she prepared was often just as delicious as meals outside. In addition to that, she was very particular with the ingredients she used and always ensured that they were safe and clean.

Zheng Yuntong, a foodie herself, had been spoilt by Xu Moyan ever since they started living together. Due to the fact that Xu Moyan often worked overtime, she would prepare some steamed dumplings in advance and store them in the freezer so that Zheng Yuntong could easily reheat them and have them for dinner whenever she was not around.

“Give me a minute to change. When I’m back, I want you to tell me honestly why you’re so excited,” Xu Moyan said.

Zheng Yuntong giggled as she scratched her head. “Aiya, I knew I couldn’t keep it from you.”

Xu Moyan rolled her eyes and headed to her bedroom to change into her loungewear before throwing her clothes into the washing machine. Zheng Yuntong’s clothes were already inside.

Both of them had a habit of washing their clothes together to save water and electricity. If one of them came back late at night, they would wait for one another before starting the daily wash.

Then, she went to the bathroom to grab her makeup remover with Zheng Yuntong following close behind. “We only got to have lunch with President Wei this afternoon because of Shen Zongyi, right?” Zheng Yuntong asked as she leaned against the doorframe.

Xu Moyan nodded. “Yeah, are you thinking of thanking him?”

Her straightforward response immediately saved Zheng Yuntong some embarrassment.

Zheng Yuntong nodded. “Hey, I sacrificed myself for you today. Shen Zongyi thought I was interested in President Wei for a second!”

Xu Moyan let out a laugh. “He’s obviously jealous! Do you think that someone like Shen Zongyi would possibly care about who his colleagues like?”

“Hey, why do you keep dragging me into this,” Zheng Yuntong muttered in embarrassment as she stomped her feet.

Xu Moyan turned to face her, and with a solemn expression, she replied, “Honestly, this is something anyone can easily pick up on. I see it, and Lin Chu surely does too. From the situation this afternoon, it’s clear that Wei Zilin noticed it as well; and it doesn’t seem like he has any intention of interfering. What do you think?”

Zheng Yuntong, “…”
