Chapter 156: Why Don’t We Get Our Marriage License On Monday?

Lin Chu looked at him and had no idea what he was doing. She blushed, and since there was nothing for her to do, she took out her phone and fiddled with it.

When they got home, Lin Chu followed Yan Beicheng into the bedroom to change.

Lin Chu went into the changing room to change into her home clothes, but when she got back, she realized that Yan Beicheng was still wearing his work attire.

Usually, when both of them came home, she had always been the one to change in the changing room while he would have changed in the bedroom.

Lin Chu asked curiously, “Why didn’t you change your clothes?”

Yan Beicheng had both his hands in his pockets. He felt assured as his left hand held on to the ring box, “I just remembered that I have some work to do, I’ll go to the study first.”

With that, he turned and hurried out the door.

He closed the door immediately after running into the study, after which he unbuttoned the top button of his shirt nervously.

It was difficult since he had never lied to Lin Chu before such that even making up an excuse made him feel anxious. He was worried that Lin Chu would be able to tell that he was lying.

Yan Beicheng took out his phone and turned on the selfie mode. He looked at his unnatural expression and coughed nervously.

The two of them had built a relationship on trust and sincerity. He did not expect one of the side-effects of this to be that he would no longer be able to lie to Lin Chu.

Now that he thought about it, he had lost his dignity as a man!

His phone screen had shown him a suspicious dark red glow on his handsome face. As he touched the back of his neck, he realized that he had broken out in cold sweat.

Yan Beicheng, “…”

Lin Chu was feeling puzzled over Yan Beicheng’s attitude. He usually did not lie to her, but his actions earlier had made him look guilty.

As she walked to the entrance of the bedroom, she looked at the study. Her eyes narrowed as she thought about what this man could possibly be hiding from her.

Her expression suddenly changed. Did some woman take advantage of him and leave some clues on his body?! Otherwise, why did he not dare change his clothes?!

Lin Chu narrowed her eyes and tip-toed towards the study door. She leaned against the door and placed her ears to it as she tried to listen to the noise on the other side.

Aunt Zhuang was on her way up to get them both down for dinner. When she saw Lin Chu sneaking around, she quietly joined her as well.

Lin Chu was so focused on listening in that even though there was no sound coming from the other side, the sudden appearance of a huge face surprised her so much that she nearly yelled out loud.

The perpetrator, Aunt Zhuang, patted herself on the chest before saying quietly, “You scared me.”

Lin Chu, “…”

“Dinner is ready. I’m here to bring you and master down to eat,” Aunt Zhuang whispered quietly to Lin Chu, in case Yan Beicheng could hear them.

However, this made Lin Chu blush. “I’ll get him down.”

“Okay, I’ll head downstairs first,” Aunt Zhuang nodded and smiled as she turned to go downstairs. She was wondering what game this couple was playing as they seemed to always be messing about.

Lin Chu was not aware that Aunt Zhuang had interpreted her actions as their horseplay. Thus, she pushed open the door without knocking.

Yan Beicheng was seated in front of his desk, looking mature and thoughtful without a single sign of uneasiness about him.

Lin Chu looked at him suspiciously and said, “Time for dinner.”

Yan Beicheng nodded stiffly. “You head down first, I’ll go change my clothes.”

Lin Chu nodded. She could only leave in this situation.

Yan Beicheng felt relieved and after touching his forearms, realized he had broken out into cold sweat again.

Yan Beicheng, “…”

How could he be so useless?!

However, he still managed to shut the door before taking out the ring box from his pocket.

He was going to place it in the drawer of his office desk but felt that it might not be safe. Lin Chu could come and go in his study as she wished, much like how she had just pushed open the door without knocking. It had been this way from the very beginning.

There was a key to the drawer, but Lin Chu had a copy of it and could open it at any time.

As for the safe… Yan Beicheng peered at it cautiously.

He had given the safe key and password to Lin Chu as well…

When Lin Chu had come in, he was closing the desk drawer and had quickly put the ring box back into his pocket.

He was now looking frantically for a proper hiding spot. Finally, he opened the cupboard door and took out a thick thesaurus. He placed the ring box in the empty space behind the thesaurus and pushed the book back in.

Yan Beicheng brushed his hands. At this height, Lin Chu would need a staircase before she could search the shelf. Thus, he decided he would temporarily keep it there.

He then went back to the bedroom and quickly changed his clothes before heading downstairs for dinner.

That night, Yan Beicheng was so excited that he could not sleep. It was ironic that Lin Chu was the one that had not slept well due to exhaustion during the previous night. Now Lin Chu was so focused on figuring out what it was that he was hiding from her that she refused to let him have his way with her.

Yan Beicheng did not insist and hugged Lin Chu while trying to think up a memorable way to propose.

In the end, he only managed to sleep after midnight as his mind raced with ideas all night long. The next day, he woke up before dawn.

By right, he had been so exhausted over the past few days that he would not wake up this early in the morning, but there was something on his mind.

As the morning sun cut through the morning fog, Yan Beicheng looked at the snow-white hands casually placed next to him. He could not wait to place the sapphire ring on her long, slender fingers and see what it looked like.

It would look so beautiful!

The more he thought about it, the more he struggled to think of anything else. Yan Beicheng lowered his head to look at the sleeping Lin Chu as he carefully got out of bed before heading into his study and taking out the ring.

He tiptoed back to bed and was relieved to see that Lin Chu had not yet woken up.

He carefully took out the ring from the box and placed it on the ring finger of Lin Chu’s left hand.

He carefully held her hand as his index finger and thumb gently pinched her finger, moving down slowly from her fingertip to the ring. He stared at the way the ring hugged her finger and felt incredibly blissful.

Just as he had thought, her hands and the sapphire coupled perfectly. One was white like suet, the other blue like the deep sea. The contrast of these two colors was much more prominent than a diamond, making it look elegant and graceful.

The more Yan Beicheng looked at it, the more beautiful it appeared. He really did not want to take the ring off her.

As he was about to slowly remove the ring, Lin Chu suddenly clasped her hands into a fist.

Yan Beicheng looked up in surprise and met with Lin Chu’s smiling eyes. She did not look like she had just woken up.

Yan Beicheng, “…”

Lin Chu lowered her eyes to look at the ring on her finger and stretched out her five fingers. It really did look beautiful.

She fell in love with it the moment she set eyes on it.

“You’ve already put it on and now you want to take it back?” Lin Chu raised an eyebrow at him.

No wonder he had been sneaking around yesterday. Lin Chu had been feeling confused as he had never hidden anything from her.

She had felt uneasy about him hiding something and sleep well that night as she was feeling upset.

When he had woken up to look at her and had gently pinched her fingers, she had woken up to. She had felt him get off the bed and come back later, only to feel something cold and heavy getting slipped onto her finger.

This must have been what he was hiding yesterday – this was the thing that he did not want her to find out about.

Yan Beicheng, “…”

His handsome face blushed from ear to ear.

He had wanted to keep it a secret, but now, he had blown it because he could not control himself.

Now that everything was out in the open, Yan Beicheng sighed and sat up. He straightened himself and said to Lin Chu who was lying lazily at his side, “I picked the sapphire myself yesterday afternoon and went to that hand-made ring shop later. I made this myself. It was such a coincidence that it was the exact same one you had gone to as well.”

“Is it engraved with words as well?” Lin Chu asked casually, but after seeing Yan Beicheng’s reaction, she immediately took off her ring.

She held on to the ring and turned it around twice before spotting the words, ‘Unfailingly Beicheng’.

Yan Beicheng did not want to see her take off the ring and immediately put it back on her finger. He waved his long fingers in front of her, “It’s the same words you put on my ring.”

Lin Chu could not help but smile, causing her lips to curl up sweetly.

Yan Beicheng pulled her into his arms as Lin Chu quickly held onto the covers and wrapped herself in them before falling into his arms. Then, she sat playfully on his lap.

Yan Beicheng held on to her hands as he played with the ring. He held on to her fingers while he did this and looked at her soulfully. He felt a little sorry as he said sheepishly, “I wanted to propose to you after making this ring, but I haven’t figured out how to. I wanted to plan the most romantic, memorable proposal for you.”

It would have also been a great way to show off to her.

“It’s my fault for not being able to keep it a secret today. I was so desperate to see how it looked on you that I didn’t think it would wake you up.” Yan Beicheng felt a little disappointed. His wonderful plans had been disrupted.

Lin Chu opened her arms and hugged him passionately, “Propose? Are you proposing to me right now?”

Yan Beicheng laughed nervously; things have gone so off track from his original plans.

He decided to go with the flow and nodded as he lowered his head to look at her, “Yes. Will you marry me?”

“Of course, I will! You’ve hit the nail on the head. This really is a unique proposal. I’m going to remember this my whole life. Even when I’m old and all my teeth have fallen off, I’ll never forget that you proposed to me this way,” Lin Chu did not even hesitate and nodded, agreeing enthusiastically without acting coy.

Yan Beicheng’s face turned into a frown as he asked, “Are you not unhappy that this not romantic enough?”

Lin Chu shook her head, “It’s not like that. This is really special to me. Besides, I’m not really a romantic person at heart.”

She lifted up her head to look at Yan Beicheng, “I don’t think you’re really a romantic person either. I like it when things are real and practical. I don’t need big, glorious events, nor do I need a crowd of people to celebrate it with me. Even if both of us were sitting on the sofa and you suddenly thought of asking me to marry you, it’d be okay – even if you don’t have a ring for me, I’d still say ‘yes’ to you. It’s not that I’m purposely doing this just to be different. I just feel that, we’re already at the stage where we can be this way with each other.”

“We’ve known each other for close to a year. I can’t say that we completely understand each other, but we understand enough for us to walk confidently into marriage. Even if you don’t mention it, I’ve it’s already become a habit to live with you. We have such a close rapport and it feels like I’ve been with you for a long time, as though we’re an elderly husband and wife. I’ve always thought of us as a married couple, and never even realized that we are missing a piece of paper between us.”

Yan Beicheng had not expected Lin Chu not to mind this simple, rough and utterly underprepared proposal.

He may not have proposed to anyone before, but he had seen how others had done it.

He had heard about how Qi Chengzhi proposed and had taken part in Qi Chenglin’s proposal. Even the location of the proposal, Red Roof, was provided by him.

Besides, his best friends loved trolling the marriage-crazed Han Zhuoli during their spare time. Anytime there was a proposal video online, they would share it with him, which was why Yan Beicheng had seen quite a lot.

He knew that most women would love a grand, romantic proposal. For reasons unknown, they loved having a huge group of family, friends, and strangers witness her happiness, and witness how important she was to her fiancé.

He felt that he had owed her a proper proposal but was also aware that Lin Chu was speaking from her heart. She really did love this down-to-earth, everyday way of proposing.

The two of them were like elderly husband and wife. They had talked about marriage so naturally in their daily conversations and had agreed to collect their marriage license together. Everything happened so naturally that it was like fish taking to water.

He tightened his arms around her and held up her hands to kiss her ring. Then, he turned to kiss her lips, “Why don’t we get our marriage license on Monday?”

“Let’s do it,” Lin Chu agreed on the spot as she nodded. She could not help nuzzling him in his arms.

She was so happy that her cheeks went pink with joy and her big, dark eyes had stars shining in them. She was excited over the anticipation of them getting married soon.

Yan Beicheng could not help thinking about her words from earlier about the only thing missing between them being a piece of paper. He was not sure if she was trying to console him for being so careless.

He felt a little guilty when he saw this gentle, little face of hers and secretly pondered if he should secretly plan an unforgettable proposal for her.

However, it was like Lin Chu could tell what he was thinking, and she did not want him to waste his time thinking about it.

Her soft fingers gently caressed the stubble on his chin, “I’m serious. I didn’t get to take a picture of it but you should have seen your muddled face when you tried to secretly take off the ring and I clasped my hand. The look on your face when you saw me awake was just too funny. I will never forget this proposal. When our children are all grown up, I’m going to tell them this story. When our grandchildren are grown up, I’m going to tell them too. That their father, their grandfather, looked so silly when he proposed to me.”

Yan Beicheng got upset and asked uncertainly, “Did I really look that silly?”

In the past, he would not have believed it nor even have asked this question.

But when Zuo Qiu had managed to take a photo of his silly expression the last time, it left a tiny, little psychology mark on him.

Every time it came to something that involved Lin Chu, he would unknowingly act a little silly.

Lin Chu nodded without hesitation and could not help laughing as she recalled Yan Beicheng’s reaction.

Yan Beicheng’s eyes twitched before he resigned himself to his fate. At least this was a unique proposal of sorts.

Who would propose in bed by secretly putting on the ring on their girlfriend’s fingers and secretly trying to take it off again?

He mumbled about it in his heart and looked at Lin Chu laughing at him teasingly.

Yan Beicheng suddenly pressed Lin Chu down on the bed as both his hands grasped hers. His slender fingers interlocked with hers as he clasped them together tightly.

He could feel the wedding ring she had just put on when their fingers intertwined.

The thought of this made him agitated and his pulse quickened. There was no way he was able to calm himself down as he planted a deep, passionate kiss on Lin Chu, dominating her forcefully.

Lin Chu had not rested well since last night, and now, she let him have his way with her yet again.

She was more exhausted than usual and was completely tired out not long after. Thus, she kept pushing for Yan Beicheng to hurry up.

Yan Beicheng quickly covered her nonsense-spouting mouth. One could not really rush this sort of thing, could they?

The sky started to brighten soon after he had his fill of her.

Both of them had woken up early and fooled around for quite a while, which made them quite tired, but since they did not need to wake up early on Saturday, Lin Chu simply yawned and buried herself into Yan Beicheng’s arms before going back to sleep.

When she woke up again, it was nearly noon. Lin Chu’s left hand was on Yan Beicheng’s chest. When she opened her eyes, the first thing her eyes fell on was the new ring on her ring finger.

The thought of marrying him and becoming a real pair of husband and wife, to live here legitimately and become Mrs. Yan, made her tear up. She could not stop smiling.

Suddenly, her hands were covered by his. She looked up to see that he already woken up too.

Yan Beicheng lowered his head to give her a light kiss on the lips. “I really wish that we’d already gotten our wedding license.”

Lin Chu nuzzled into his arms. She turned slightly to kiss him on the chest where his heart was and smiled. “Let’s go to the old mansion today and tell grandma and grandpa. We can’t get our wedding license without informing them first.”

If it were up to Yan Beicheng, he would have preferred to stay in bed the whole day.

However, as they’ve decided to register their marriage, he was feeling excited and could not stay still. He really wished for time to fly by so they could hurry up and seal the deal.

Although, this was fine by him as he too would like to tell them the good news immediately, so he soon got up with Lin Chu.

By the time they had finished tidying up, it was already noon. As they had just woken up, they did not want to have anything too oily, so Aunt Zhuang made the breakfast menu for them to have for brunch.

After finishing their meal, they headed to the old mansion together.

From the moment they left the house, Yan Beicheng insisted on holding Lin Chu’s left hand. He swung it from time to time and whenever he swung it to the front, he would ‘accidentally’ show off the ring on her ring finger.

Unfortunately, they did not bump into any neighbors from the moment they entered the elevator all the way to the garage.

“What’s up with today? Why is no one out during the weekend just staying at home?! It’s a beautiful day with no haze, don’t they know how to enjoy the good weather?” Yan Beicheng complained about the situation.

They were able to bump into insensible neighbors when they were kissing in the elevator the other morning, but when he wanted to bump into them, no one was around!

Lin Chu, “…”

How old was he to want to show off to everyone like a little boy?!

Thus, Yan Beicheng had to suppress his desire to show off and be content with insisting on seeing the ring every time they stopped at a red light.

During the first or second time, Lin Chu was excited to do so and did exactly as he said by holding up her hand for him.

However, there were so many red lights along the way that after the third or fourth time, Lin Chu’s excitement had severely diminished.

“Your left hand…” Yan Beicheng wanted her to hold up her left hand again at the red light.

Lin Chu immediately grabbed his right hand and held on to it. “When you want me to show it to you again, you can simply hold it up yourself.”

Yan Beicheng, “…”

She had initially thought that this would put a stop to Yan Beicheng’s antics but had not expected Yan Beicheng to take her seriously and literally hold up her hand every single time he wanted to view it. He would move it around and stare at it for quite a while and it was not until there was only 90 seconds left on the traffic light that he would start to drive off.

He continued doing this all the way to the old mansion until they got out of the car.

When they arrived, Yan Beicheng did not bring her towards the old mansion to ring the doorbell. Instead, he stopped in front of the Nan family house.

Lin Chu, “…”

Σ(°△°|||)︴What was this man trying to do?!

Then, she saw Yan Beicheng ring the doorbell of the two elders of the Nan family.

The Nan family housekeeper, Aunt Huang, came out to look and said in surprise, “Mr. Yan, Miss Lin.”

“It won’t be Miss Lin any longer,” Yan Beicheng held up Lin Chu’s left hand and waved it around in front of Aunt Huang.

Aunt Huang, “…”

She suddenly felt that maybe the Nan family should move. Old Lady Yan was usually quite bored at home, but she was lazy to go out to visit her old friends, so she was always going to the house next door to chat with Old Lady Nan.

Every time they chatted, the conversation would turn to the oldest grandchild of the Yan family and Lin Chu. She would brag about them to Old Lady Nan, which always put Old Lady Nan in a bad mood; so much so that she had recently refused to spend time with Old Lady Yan.

Now, Old Lady Yan’s oldest grandchild had come showing off in her place.

What bad blood was there between them for them to do this?!

Even then, Aunt Huang still smiled happily as this was a happy occasion. “Oh! Then, I’ll just refer to you as Mrs. Yan in advance!”

These were such sweet-sounding words!

Yan Beicheng was feeling pretty good and his face glowed with happiness.

“Where’s Jingheng?” Yan Beicheng remembered what he was here for.

Aunt Huang told them there was a new menu of chicken fillets in McDonald’s, “Yuan was making a lot of noise about wanting to have McDonald’s, and since the two Nan family elders do not like Western fast food, Master Jingheng brought him out to have a meal there. I think they will be returning soon.”

The moment Aunt Huang finished saying this, a car turned in to park in front of the house. Nan Jingheng brought Nan Yuan out from the car and passed the keys to their driver who promptly parked the car in their garage.

“Brother Cheng, Sister-in-law,” Nan Jingheng called out politely.

He was holding the hands of a little boy who looked quite similar to him. He was the same age as Yan Ningbai and had a good-looking, exquisite face, much like Mo Jingxi.

Nan Yuan quickly called out ‘uncle’ and ‘auntie’ politely when he saw the guests.

Nan Jingheng smiled at them but was suspicious, he felt that nothing good was going to come out of Yan Beicheng taking the initiative to visit him.

“What’s up?” Nan Jingheng asked carefully.

He glanced at the weird expression on Aunt Huang’s face and felt something amiss.

“Nothing. I just came here because I thought of you. You’re living just next door, so I came to visit you,” Yan Beicheng said casually as he held up Lin Chu’s left hand and waved it around. He wanted Nan Jingheng to see the shining sapphire on Lin Chu’s fair fingers.

Nan Jingheng, “…”

Hoho! He will pretend he did not see anything. What can Yan Beicheng do?!

“Oh, in that case, I won’t disturb you both. Head on back quickly to visit grandma and grandpa Yan. The two elders must be feeling impatient,” Nan Jingheng waved his hands at them.

Yan Beicheng, “…”

Was he not able to see such a big stone on the ring?

Nan Jingheng went along with his friendly chatter for a while and continued his act. “Come by again when you’re free!”

Nan Jingheng wanted to be polite, but he did not expect his words to eventually bite him in the butt.

Yan Beicheng was already planning his payback as he nodded and took Lin Chu back next door.

At the same time, Nan Jingheng was dragging Nan Yuan back into the house.

Yan Beicheng rang the doorbell of the old mansion as Lin Chu stood speechless next to him. Was he going to keep showing off this way?

Suddenly, Yan Beicheng turned toward her and said, “That Nan Jingheng was just pretending not to see anything. I can’t be so obvious. I wanted to casually let him find out on his own.”

Lin Chu, “…”

‘You were actually making it really obvious just now’.

Aunt Chen opened the door for them as Yan Beicheng entered with Lin Chu. The moment they entered the house, they saw two luggage bags at the door, one big and the other small.

The bigger leather luggage bag was a brand that started with the alphabet ‘L’ and looked to be very heavy. The smaller one was in the shape of the cartoon character ‘Minion’ and was obviously luggage used to cheat little children as nothing much could fit into it.

One look and they knew it belonged to Yan Ningbai.

Yan Beicheng had a bad feeling about this. Aunt Chen brought over two pairs of slippers, which he promptly changed into it before raising his eyebrow at the luggage.

However, Aunt Chen did not say anything, and after Lin Chu had changed into her slippers, both of them walked into the house.

Everyone was surprised when the two of them turned up since they had not planned to get together today. Old Lady Yan took off her reading glasses and said to them, “Why have you suddenly shown up?”

Yan Beicheng could not help but smile. He brought Lin Chu to sit on the sofa, all the while holding onto Lin Chu’s hand. He did not let go even when they were sitting down.

His fingers were intertwined with hers and his palms were facing up as his fingers gently pressed against the back of her hand, such that it exposed the sapphire ring on her left ring finger.

The two elders may have had failing eyesight, but the bright and big sapphire was waved about in front of them so obviously that they could not miss it. Both their eyes immediately widened.

“This…” Old Lady Yan wanted to ask if he had proposed.

However, she was worried that she had misunderstood and would accidentally embarrass Lin Chu. She glared at Yan Beicheng, how nice would it be if he had done this earlier?

Yan Beicheng held Lin Chu’s hand as he smiled. “Lin Chu and I have decided to get married and will be collecting our marriage license on Monday.”

Old Lady Yan was so happy she kept slapping herself on the knees. “You should have done this earlier! I’ll go get your identification booklet.”

Yan Beicheng’s identification booklet was still being kept with the two elders.

Old Lady Yan quickly came back with the identification booklet and passed it to Lin Chu.

Yan Huaian and Yu Zi also congratulated them happily while Old Master Yan continuously fiddled with his newly trimmed beard and walked away. No one knew what he wanted to do.

After a while, he came back with a thick almanac in his hands, “It will be exhausting to prepare for a wedding, wouldn’t it? Which day have you picked to have the wedding? Is two months preparation enough for you?”

Old Lady Yan, “…”

Old Lady Yan said laughingly, “Aren’t you rushing into things?! There’s a lot of things to prepare for a wedding! Two months is not enough time. Just picking the wedding dress alone for Lin Chu will take so much time. Our family can’t simply buy a random wedding dress for Lin Chu to wear. We need to get a designer to design one for her. It would be best if we get a few designs for Lin Chu to pick. We’ll make the dress only after she picks her design. Just that will take a lot of time. There’s also the matter of invitation cards. We have to get a wedding planning company to plan it from beginning to end. That will take at least half a year’s preparation, won’t it?”

“That long?” Old Master Yan’s eyes widened as his eyebrows raised high above his eyes.

“Half a year is considered pretty fast. It’s a good thing that it will be easier to deal with a hotel. If it was some normal family looking to book their wedding banquet at a hotel, they would need to book at least one year in advance. It’s much more convenient for our family since we have Sheng Yue, and there is the Red Roof. They’re all great locations and belong to us so they can block their time for us anytime we want it,” Yu Zi smiled as she said. When she and Yan Huaian got married, their wedding was held at Sheng Yue.

When they picked out the date, Yan Beicheng got someone to check if it was available. Someone else was negotiating for the same date but he quickly got someone to inform them that the date had been booked. In this way, they got the client to change their timing.

It really was quite convenient for them that the hotel was their property.

“It’s not that urgent. We’ll be husband and wife after we get our marriage license on Monday so it’s all the same to us,” Lin Chu smiled.

Old Master Yan said sternly, “How can it be the same? We’ll have a big wedding so all my old friends will know you got married. Nope, half a year is too long a wait.”

Old Lady Yan was always arguing with Old Master Yan and it was rare that Old Master Yan said something that made her happy. However, she kept laughing as she slapped her knee.

“I’m saying, old man, why are you acting like a little child?!”

Old Master Yan glared at her and suddenly had an idea, “Give Lawyer Zhou a call. Get him to draft a notice. When you collect the marriage license on Monday, we’ll announce it online and let everyone know that both of you are married.”

Lin Chu blinked. She felt that Old Master Yan was trying to make this as big an occasion as he could.

They were getting married because it was the natural thing to do, but as things stood, by the time the wedding comes around, the whole city will probably know about it.

She did not expect Yan Beicheng to nod in agreement. “That is a good idea, grandpa.”

With the consent of his oldest grandson, Old Master Yan was so delighted that even his beard curled up. Yan Beicheng did not delay any longer and called Lawyer Zhou in front of everyone to give his instructions.

Lin Chu really wanted to cover her face right there and then. She had never seen him so proud!

The classmates she had grown up with from elementary to high school were either in a relationship or would have already gotten married at this age. They would often show off their wedding pictures after they got married, and although it was considered early for the men to get married at 25-years-old, it was still within the realms of normality. A few of her male classmates had also just gotten married not too long ago.

Most of them had shown off in their WeChat Moments with their wedding pictures, marriage license, and a few mushy words or their thoughts on the future.

But none of them had done anything like Yan Beicheng, who wanted to make an announcement via press release on his marriage!

When Yan Beicheng hung up, Yan Huaian said, “We had wanted to pay you a visit today, but since you’re already here, bring Ningbai home with you tonight.”

Yan Beicheng, “…”

“You know I need to go outstation for a week, and Yu Zi needs to be at S City. The earliest she can be done there is in four to five days. If it takes longer than that, then she will get back around the same time as me. This is why you must help your granduncle take care of your uncle!” Yan Huaian explained.

Yan Beicheng, “…”

This was not the right attitude when asking someone else for help!

Yan Huaian was not cheering up Yan Beicheng at all, and since he desperately needed something to improve his mood, he turned toward Old Lady Yan and said, “I met Jingheng and Yuan at the gates just now, and Jingheng asked us to give them a visit when we have free time.”

Just as expected, Old Lady Yan’s eyes brightened like a hungry wolf being fed meat. She slapped herself on the knee and said, “Yes, yes! Yes, we should visit them. I haven’t been there for the past two days; I’m missing the two Nan family elders badly.”

Lin Chu, “…”

She had not visited them for the past two days? Then has she normally been visiting them every day?

She had no idea that even though Old Lady Yan might not visit them every day, she normally would be there at least three to four days a week. If not for Old Lady Nan getting tired of her and her sarcastic remarks, Old Lady Yan would have been there seven days a week. She would not have missed a day of visiting them if she could.

Old Lady Yan stood up and pulled Lin Chu close, “Lin Chu, come with me to visit the Nan family. You haven’t met the Nan family elders, right? Grandma will bring you along to meet them today.”

Yan Beicheng stood up casually, “I haven’t visited the two Nan family elders for quite a while too. I’ll go with you.”

Old Lady Yan was overjoyed. It have the ultimate effect if she turned up with her grandson and granddaughter-in-law to show off together!

Old Master Yan could not sit around idly either, but he felt that it would be too obvious if he showed up as well. So, he turned towards Yan Ningbai, “Nephew, you do you want to go out and have some fun?”

Yan Ningbai was in the middle of suffering in the heat. While it was still not the hottest time of the year, B City was prone to an early heatwave so the temperature there was quite hot at the moment.

He was only willing to sit at home to enjoy the air-conditioning in this weather and did not want to go out into the sun and sweat profusely. It would make him uncomfortably sticky.

He was lying lazily on the sofa as he shook his head and said, “It’s really hot outside, I don’t want to go out.”

Old Master Yan glared at him. “Sit properly, one should always sit with a good posture!”

He could not stand it when someone had no posture.

Yan Ningbai looked at Old Master Yan faintly. ‘Do you still want to take me out?’

Old Master Yan, “…”

“Don’t you want that automatic pencil case? I’ll take you out to buy one! There’s a new imported supermarket that has just opened in our district. You can find everything there!” Old Master Yan coaxed him as his old, wrinkly faced smiled widely. It was was dark and covered with layers of wrinkles.

His white moustache trembled alongside his smile, making him look a bit like a villain.

Yan Ningbai felt that Old Master Yan looked exactly like one of those elderly hooligans who specialized in child abduction.

However, he could not help asking at the thought of owning a mechanical pencil box, “Is there one with Minions on them?”

“What’s a Minion? I don’t know what that is,” Old Master Yan shook his head as he secretly observed Yan Ningbai’s reaction. He looked like he was just about to decide not to go out with him.

Thus, Old Master Yan quickly cleared his throat and said, “Anyway, I saw plenty of designs there. It’d be better for you if you came along to pick one out for yourself.”

Yan Ningbai gave it a thought and clenched his teeth. “Okay, I’ll go with you!”
