Chapter 771 - Who Do You Think You Are? (1)
But Tang Moyu didn't have any plans to die tonight, leaving her husband and their children on their own. She knew well what could happen if she lost her life today, and how broken Feng Tianyi would be.
She didn't want her husband to suffer like he did before meeting her and their little buns, or for him to revert to the cold man he was even before the accident. Song Fengyan had given her a good gist of what kind of life her husband was living before returning to Shenzhen.
She hated that people now considered her as his weakness, but Tang Moyu never thought of herself as one. She was his partner, his better half. If people thought they could bully her husband through her, then they were gravely mistaken.
Tang Moyu didn't think one bit that Zhu Ziqian was joking though. This man had already lost his mind out of grief. Although she understood his pain, they couldn't allow this madness to continue any longer.
Her whole body shivered not because of the coldness of the night, but due to the tension between the three of them. Zhu Ziqian looked at her with an amused expression on his face, while Feng Tianyi wore an impassive mask as he pointed his gun at the other man. However, Moyu knew that he was nervous.
If it were the old version of him, he wouldn't have batted an eyelid and would kill Zhu Ziqian in an instant. But his wife's presence changed everything. He didn't want to admit it, but her presence deemed the situation more dangerous and terrifying for him. A moment of hesitation could cause Tang Moyu's death. His gut told him that he should already pull the trigger to stop Zhu Ziqian at once before he did something, but he also feared missing the target, giving the mad man a chance to hurt his wife.
"What's wrong, Feng Tianyi? Don't tell me you are hesitating?" Zhu Ziqian taunted him. "After ruining so many lives in the past, you are now hesitating to add another to your long list?"
But Tang Moyu knew better. Her husband might be known as the devil in the past, but he had never taken a life with his own hands. What happened seven years ago that took Zhu Ziqian's family was an accident that nobody wanted to happen.
"Are you afraid to show your beloved wife your true colors? Are you afraid that once she'd seen the real you, she would scamper away in fear and would never look at you the same way again?" Zhu Ziqian continued, making Tang Moyu itch to pull the trigger to shut him up.
Of course, she knew. She knew well that Feng Tianyi feared that she would turn her back on him once she witnessed how cruel and evil he could be to other people. In everyone's eyes, Feng Tianyi was sort of a monster they needed to avoid.
But not her.
How foolish, Tang Moyu thought. Truly, some people would rather remember what you did wrong in the past than remember the good deeds you have done.
"But I think someone would be very happy once the news of your death reaches her ears, don't you think Madam Feng?" Zhu Ziqian told her.
Tang Moyu narrowed her eyes and tightened her hold on the gun in her hands. Just who was he talking about? So in the end, they were right and someone was pulling the strings from behind?
Then who could it possibly be? Several names crossed her mind, but she didn't dare to make assumptions at the moment. Human minds were so fickle and easily influenced. It didn't surprise Tang Moyu that Zhu Ziqian allowed himself to be used by another person who shared the same goal as he.
Tang Moyu knew that there were some people who held animosity against her, but she wasn't certain who would be brave enough to help Zhu Ziqian. However, she didn't have time to ponder who it was as her life was in grave danger at the moment.
Initially, she wanted to lead Zhu Ziqian outside where the cops were waiting, but his intention to kill her right here was so strong. This forced her and Feng Tianyi to pull out the guns they brought with them.
"Come on, Feng Tianyi. What are you waiting for? Pull the trigger and kill me!" Zhu Ziqian laughed manically. "Kill me and let your wife see who you really are."
He then pulled the trigger of his gun without warning, and Feng Tianyi felt his heart sank; fear gripped his inside. He thought that his wife got shot due to his hesitation, but the empress remained unmoving from her place.
Zhu Ziqian's grin told him that he was just testing him.
"I will not miss the next time, Feng Tianyi," he told him.
"You're so annoying." Tang Moyu tilted her head and gave Zhu Ziqian an unimpressed look. Why did he keep on spouting nonsense anyway? He kept on dragging and wasting their time.
"If you want to die so badly, then just die," she said before another distinct gunshot echoed within the area, breaking the silence of the night.
Feng Tianyi was too shocked by what happened. He wasn't sure who had pulled the trigger this time, until he saw Zhu Ziqian stagger back, holding his left shoulder painfully. Blood seeped from his hand as he tried to put pressure on his body to stop the bleeding.
"W-what…?" he muttered.
"You wanted so badly to die? Let me fulfill your wish!" Tang Moyu sneered in contempt.
"Moyu! No!" Feng Tianyin exclaimed once he noticed the unusual coldness in Tang Moyu's eyes.
Even Zhu Ziqian was too shocked by what happened. He stared at Tang Moyu with wide eyes as if he never expected one bit that she would be the one to dare shoot him.
