Chapter 750 - Yu’Er (2)
Tang Moyu returned that evening to the hospital after her work at Xiao Xing to see her best friend and newborn niece. No doubt her twin brother was also there as Zhang Jiren informed her that he was taking a short break from work for a week to look after Li Meili and Leyan.
She had been satisfied with how he was treating Li Meili so far, but she was worried how their relationship would end up once the two-year marriage contract between them was over. Based on her observation, she knew that feelings— whether it was friendship or more than that, had already developed between the two. This was also one of the reasons why Tang Moyu was truly against her best friend's decision to enter a contractual marriage with Zhang Jiren previously, but what else could she do now? It was impossible to change anything as things had already happened.
Before she went to the private room where Li Meili and Leyan were staying, she dropped by at Dr. Huang's office to ask about her friend's recovery. The doctor was kind enough to explain to her that Li Meili was doing well, and the newborn tests conducted on Zhang Leyan were clear.
After thanking Dr. Huang, she stepped out of the room and adjusted the strap of her bag over her shoulder. She had her long hair tied in a low ponytail with her face clear of any makeup. Tonight, she was dressed casually with a pair of fitted denim jeans, a white blouse, and a pair of flat, white shoes.
Even without her usual high-heels, Tang Moyu still had a regal expression on her cold features, enough for anyone to glance her way.
As she strode to the nurses' station near the private room where her best friend was, she didn't forget to ask the staff about who had visited Li Meili, so far. She had to make sure that none of the Zhang family had come and caused trouble while she wasn't around.
"Ah, her whole family came to see Madam Zhang today. I think Mr. Zhang made a short call this morning and they came in a hurry," one of the nurses on duty informed her.
"I see. Thank you for your help," Tang Moyu murmured before her attention was piqued when an old woman stepped out from the room behind the counter, talking and laughing with the other nurses.
"Ah, you really don't need to see me out. This old woman is still strong enough to walk on her own," the elder told the two younger nurses who were clinging onto her, acting like spoiled children.
"But Head Nurse Yu hasn't visited us for a while. Why are you leaving so soon?" One of them pouted.
"Right. Right. Even if you are already retired now, Head Nurse Yu should visit us more frequently. It's so boring without you here," the other one chimed in.
The old woman called Head Nurse Yu laughed again and patted their hands.
"Look at you two. I've only been gone for two months and you are now slacking at work." She then lifted her head, the wide smile on her face freezing upon seeing Tang Moyu standing by the counter, talking to the nurse on duty.
"Head Nurse Yu, are you leaving now? Won't you join us for dinner?" the nurse on duty asked upon seeing the older woman but she was ignored.
"Yu… Yu'er?" Head Nurse Yu stuttered as she stared wide-eyed at Tang Moyu.
The empress tilted her head in the elder lady's direction, her eyes slightly narrowing, wondering why this woman called her affectionately. Did they know each other? She wondered. But Tang Moyu was sure she'd never met or talked with this old woman before.
"Madam Feng, is there something else you need?" the nurse on duty asked Tang Moyu when she noticed that the empress remained unmoving.
"Ah, no." Tang Moyu snapped from her daze and looked at the old woman who was obviously shocked upon seeing her. Also, the lady seemed more stunned when the other nurse addressed her as Madam Feng.
Tang Moyu found it suspicious. Just who was this woman and why did she call her Yu'er as if she knew her intimately?
"Madam, do I know you?" she asked the old woman. It was only then the latter snapped out of her shock and shook her head in response.
"Ah, I'm sorry. I mistook you for someone I knew in the past. I'm sorry," Head Nurse Yu replied before bidding goodbye to her old colleagues and hurriedly left, leaving Tang Moyu in confusion.
It took several seconds before Tang Moyu's puzzlement cleared, and her eyes widened, finally dawning to her who the old woman had mistaken her for. Didn't the people who knew about Yan Qiuyu say that she had a striking resemblance to her birth mother? That, and the fact that Yan Qiuyu used to be a nurse only solidified Tang Moyu's suspicion that Head Nurse Yu knew her.
She hurriedly followed the old woman, hoping that she wasn't too late and still be able to catch up with her. She found Head Nurse Yu standing in front of the elevator, waiting for it to come up.
Tang Moyu went to her at once, gently touching the old woman's arm to stop her from leaving.
"Madam, if you don't mind, could you tell me who you mistook me for?" she asked while trying to catch her breath. "Do you know Yan Qiuyu? Please tell me the truth."
Because there weren't many people who knew about her birth mother, Tang Moyu couldn't get to the bottom of the real reason for her death. Even though her twin brother had somewhat survived, there were still questions left unanswered.
The old woman seemed uncomfortable and worried at the same time. She looked around to see if anyone was watching them before she pulled Tang Moyu, leading to the stairwell that people rarely used.
Tang Moyu allowed herself to be dragged away, wondering what made this old woman act like this. Was there someone threatening her?
Once they were out of everyone's earshot, the old nurse released tang Moyu's wrist and gave her a head-to-toe look before a smile spread on her face.
"You look very much like her…" she said. When Tang Moyu raised a brow, Head Nurse Yu continued. "I mean, you look like Yan Qiuyu."
