Chapter 740 - He Has No One but You (1)
Tang Moyu joined her husband at the couch, watching their twins play with Huo Yunhao and Lan Yunru. Since their sixth birthday was just in the corner, they needed to finish the preparation for the celebration.
"So how's your mission going? Were you able to convince Little Star?" she asked Feng Tianyi, taking a peek over his shoulder only to see the list of desserts and dishes their twins wanted for their birthday.
She raised a slender brow when she saw a bucket of popcorn on the list. What kind of birthday party did her twins have in their minds to ask for popcorn? Were they planning to have a sleepover with their friends again?
"No, she insisted she didn't want a baby sibling," Feng Tianyi sighed. He was already running out of ideas how to convince their daughter. Was Little Star worried that they would forget about her once her younger sibling comes?
Tang Moyu hummed but didn't dare to make a comment on her husband's failure. He wouldn't give up easily in his quest anyway.
"Is there anything else you wanted to add on the list?" Feng Tianyi asked her. Since they both decided to only invite their friends and families like what they did last year, Tang Moyu wasn't worried about the preparation.
"No, and I don't think we need some alcohol unless you and Song Fengyan are able to finish it on your own," she replied.
Lin Qianrou was still nursing her young son while Gu Yuyao and Li Meili were still not allowed to drink alcohol according to Dr. Huang. Tang Moyu found it funny that her friends were all starting their own families at the same time, with the exception of her best friend who ended up marrying her twin brother and not Tang Beixuan.
"You are worrying about Li Meili again," Feng Tianyi said when he noticed her silence.
"Can't be helped. It's not that I don't trust her judgment, but I also have to worry now about Leyan," she admitted.
There were times she found herself contemplating if she should give Li Meili a call to make sure she was doing just fine. The news of Li Meili fainting in her workroom had scared the hell out of her.
"Well, I think Zhang Jiren is doing a perfect job looking after her. It's good that they are getting along and he's limiting her encounters with the Zhang family," her husband commented.
Still, Tang Moyu couldn't help but worry about Li Meili. If her best friend didn't marry Zhang Jiren, she wouldn't think twice and take Li Meili under her wing. She didn't want Li Meili or her niece to be hurt because of the Zhangs.
"You should at least give Zhang Jiren the benefit of the doubt. You knew how horrible his childhood was, right? I'm sorry, Moyu. I know you are wary of him but I kinda pity your twin brother. He has no one but you, but you don't even trust nor care about him," Feng Tianyi said with a straight face.
Tang Moyu was caught off guard by his words. She hadn't thought nor tried to see the situation in that angle. Suddenly, shame and guilt spread through her. To think that she was suspecting and treating her real brother so badly, she was no better than the people she used to hate.
"Sorry, Moyu." Feng Tianyi took her hand. He'd been thinking about it for some time, but didn't want to offend his wife by defending Zhang Jiren in front of her.
"It's alright. I guess I was the wrong one here." Tang Moyu couldn't believe how hypocritical she was for treating her twin brother so badly. Had she been blinded by her prejudice with the Zhangs that she wouldn't allow Zhang Jiren to explain himself?
"I didn't tell you this to make you feel bad about yourself, Moyu. I understand where you are coming from but you also have to understand that Zhang Jiren had also dealt with everything on his own. I'm not telling you to accept him as your brother and replace Beixuan. No one can replace him— no one. But Zhang Jiren only has you as his family. Don't deny him the chance to know what it feels to have a sibling he could rely on."
Tang Moyu buried her face on his shoulder, ashamed of herself. She'd been on guard against Zhang Jiren and the Zhang family that she overlooked the fact that he was still her brother.
"I'm sorry. I should have known better," she muttered, chastising herself for being unreasonable. "Do you think he hates me for treating him indifferently?"
Of all the people, she should be the one able to understand how sad her twin brother was growing up. Just like her, all the people around him had been feeding him with lies, making him doubt himself and his identity.
She felt her husband's hand rubbing her back soothingly. Was there something she could do to make up for her mistakes? Tang Moyu didn't want to have another thing to regret in her life.
"It's not too late, Moyu," Feng Tianyi said, as if he knew what was going on in her mind. He knew how protective Zhang Jiren was to his sister, considering how he'd forced the Zhang Corporation not to clash with the Tang Enterprise when Tang Moyu took over the management.
If Zhang Jiren was truly on the Zhang family's side, he would have gone head to head against his twin sister and forced the Tang family to hand over their assets like what he did to other companies before Tang Moyu's return.
"They are going to attend Baobao and Little Star's party, right? Then try to spend time and know your brother. I'm sure he's looking forward to knowing more about his sister."
There's no need for Tang Moyu to suspect her twin brother for Feng Tianyi knew that Zhang Jiren would jump forward in the face
