Chapter 719   - Zhang Leyan (2)

The drive toward the villa in the outskirts of the city was quite slow in Tang Moyu's opinion. It wasn't her first time visiting Li Meili at their new place, but whenever she was around, Zhang Jiren was nowhere to be found. She supposed that he was still insisting on keeping a safe distance from her so people around him wouldn't suspect that they were related to each other.

To be honest, Tang Moyu wasn't sure how to treat Zhang Jiren. He might be her younger twin brother, but she knew that she wasn't ready to accept him in her life yet, not when she had recently lost Tang Beixuan.

The car she was riding pulled to a stop in front of the villa and Tang Moyu emerged from the rear.

"Thanks." She told the female bodyguard who opened the door from the outside for her.

"My p.l.e.a.s.u.r.e, Madam."

Tang Moyu watched as the car traveled along the long looping driveway, which no doubt led to the garage at the back of the villa, and disappeared from her sight.

Only one lamp was lit by the door although there was certainly a good amount of lights that were newly installed, but Li Meili thought it was wasteful. Zhang Jiren could afford it, considering he was a CEO of a huge company but since Li Meili didn't like to be frivolous with their spendings, he conceded. Whatever made her happy was fine by him.

The front door suddenly opened and Tang Moyu was greeted by Elder Lan and another housekeeper who was sent by the Li family to look after Li Meili. As far as Tang Moyu knew, Elder Lan never stayed past dinner time unless the married couple requested her to.

"Madam Feng, it's been awhile." The old woman smiled at her. "Miss Meili is waiting for you in the master bedroom."

Elder Lan leaned forward and whispered.

"Can this old woman ask you a favor and convince her to eat her dinner on time? Miss Meili hasn't eaten her lunch because she and Master Jiren had a misunderstanding last night."

"Oh?" Tang Moyu raised a brow at that.

This was actually the first time she heard that Li Meili and her twin brother had an argument. Zhang Jiren was doing a good job acting like a doting husband to her best friend and Li Meili was full of praises of him during the first months of their marriage.

So what changed then? Tang Moyu wondered.

"I'll see what I can do." She told Elder Lan before taking the steps up the stairs and went straight to the master bedroom where Li Meili was, with her high heels clattering on the cool marble floor.

Tang Moyu found her sister-in-law seated on the balcony, where a small table and two chairs were set up. Li Meili was still dressed in her long nightdress. She was looking outside, where a green and lush garden could be seen.

"Meili!" She called out to her best friend. Li Meili turned her head and gave her a bland smile.

Tang Moyu looked around the huge master bedroom and saw a robe on a nearby armchair. She took it and sauntered towards where her best friend was, covering Li Meili's shoulder with the robe.

"It's starting to get chilly here. Do you want to catch a cold?" She chastised her before taking a seat.

Li Meili looked heavily pregnant by now. Although her baby bump was as huge as it should normally be, Tang Moyu felt like her friend's body was taking a toll from it. Unlike other pregnant women who gained weight, Li Meili's body looked more fragile than ever.

There was a knock on the door before the Li family's housekeeper entered the room and served them some refreshing drinks and newly sliced fruits for Li Meili to eat. It was then Tang Moyu remembered what Elder Lan told her earlier.

Once the housekeeper stepped out of the room, giving them enough privacy, Tang Moyu placed the plate of sliced fruits in front of Li Meili, gesturing to her to start eating. Li Meili stared at her for a moment before releasing a sigh, knowing that she wouldn't be able to win against the empress.

"I heard you and Zhang Jiren had a fight. What happened?" Tang Moyu probed.

Li Meili pouted at that, remembering her argument with her husband last night.

"Zhang Jiren won't allow me to go to my office to start on the dress for the competition. We are halfway through finishing it and I need to oversee the details and finishing of the dress before the finals." She pierced the sliced apple with such eagerness that it almost broke into half.

"It's not like I'm trying to put Leyan at risk." She mumbled.

"Leyan?" Tang Moyu inquired. Was that the name Li Meili came up for her niece?

Li Meili hummed and started eating her snack without noticing that she was eating with such eagerness.

"En. I asked Zhang Jiren to name my baby and he gave her that name. It's beautiful, isn't it?" This time she gave Tang Moyu a genuine smile.

"Indeed." Tang Moyu agreed with her before taking a sip from her drink. The sweetness of the juice hit her tongue and instantly improved her mood.

"But it makes sense why he was against you going back to your boutique, Meili. Didn't you have a spotting last week? It's normal for him to get worried. The traffic is so bad these days that even I took one and a half hours to reach here from Xiao Xing."

Li Meili sighed but she knew Tang Moyu was right. Travelling wasn't very ideal for her right now but the dress wouldn't finish itself without her.

"Let's not talk about him… Tell me how the investigation is going." She said changing their subject.
