Chapter 650 - I Will Return This a Thousandfold! (2)
Zhang Jiren g.r.o.a.n.e.d as he dragged himself to the kitchen of his penthouse, his eyesight a bit blurry as his head was pounding very badly. Damn it, why did it feel like the distance between his bedroom and the kitchen was too far. The moment he came home after work, his fever shot up, making him feel miserable.
Now, his throat felt dry and aching. He so desperately wanted to drink something to quench his thirst. Zhang Jiren had fallen asleep instantly the moment he laid down on his bed. However, he suddenly woke up feeling worse than he did.
As he reached his kitchen, he pulled out a bottle of water from his fridge and took some medicines to lower his fever. Hopefully, he would get better soon because he didn't think his workload would be able to wait for him to recover. They would only pile up if he slows down at work.
Zhang Jiren slowly walked back to his bedroom, stripping his clothes one by one, leaving only his black boxers. Since he was living on his own, he didn't need to bother about anyone seeing him in his undressed state. If people didn't know that he was the current CEO of Zhang Corporation, they might mistake him as a professional model instead, given how lean and fit his body features were.
His skin glistened with sweat as he allowed himself to drop on his bed. Glancing at the clock on his bedside table, he saw that it was past nine in the evening. He only had a few hours of naptime, but he wasn't feeling any better.
He hadn't eaten anything since lunchtime, but it wasn't like he had the appetite to eat anything right now. He just wanted a good sleep to regain some energy so he would be able to go to work the next day.
His eyes drooped as slumber slowly caught up with him. However, just as he was about to fully succ.u.mb to sleep, his phone that housed his private line rang loudly, disturbing the? peacefulness of his night.
Zhang Jiren propped an arm and took his phone to see who was calling him at this time. Only a few people knew his private line and only used it for very confidential matters. The screen showed Feng Tianyi's name. That alone had forced him to sit up to answer his brother-in-law.
"Zhang Jiren speaking." He answered at once, trying to hide the uneasiness in his voice even though he didn't think Feng Tianyi would mind if he sounded weird at the moment.
"You aren't responding to my messages. Where are you? Something happened to Moyu. She and her siblings got into a car accident. Hurry and go to the hospital I sent you earlier."
Zhang Jiren was burning with fever, but the moment he heard his twin sister got into an accident, he felt like someone had poured a bucket of ice over his head. He could even hear the fear lacing Feng Tianyi's tone.
"W-what?" He stuttered in shock. "How could it possibly happen? Didn't you say her security isn't lacking?"
"I'm on my way to the hospital now. Moyu's car is always checked before she uses it, but they were using Tang Beixuan's car this time. I don't know the specifics. Just go if you can. We will deal with whoever the motherf.u.c.ker is once we're sure Moyu is safe. I swear on my life, whoever that bastard is, I will return this a thousandfold!" The devil said furiously on the other end of the line before he hung up.
Zhang Jiren was too shocked by the news and it took some time before it registered what Feng Tianyi said in his mind. He shut his eyes and tried to reign his conflicting emotions. A part of him feared that he might lose his twin sister for good while the other part wanted to hunt down and destroy the person who dared to hurt her.
But Feng Tianyi was right. Their priority now was to make sure that Tang Moyu and siblings were safe before they could launch a counterattack. Zhang Jiren knew he needed to stay at home to recover, but he couldn't leave everything to Feng Tianyi and stay here, wondering about Tang Moyu's condition.
As much as he wanted to crush the person responsible for this accident with his own hands, he needed to calm down and clear his mind so he could avoid being reckless and commit another mistake he would regret later on. He knew better than letting his anger get the better of him.
He ran both of his hands over his face, hoping that the medicine would start to kick in so his headache would somehow lessen before he left and went to see his twin sister. After sitting on the edge of his bed inside the dimly lit room for a while, Zhang Jiren forced himself to move to the bathroom for a quick shower and got dressed.
He also summoned his driver this time. Since he wasn't in the good condition to drive, he didn't want to risk taking the wheels and driving himself to the hospital. So many scenarios played in his mind, making him think of what he would do and what would happen to him if he lost Tang Moyu for good.
"Drive. We need to get there as soon as possible." He told his driver as soon as he closed the backseat door of his car. Thankfully, the medicine had started kicking in. He didn't feel dizzy anymore and could clearly see where he was going. Still, it was still obvious that he wasn't in perfect condition.
"Boss, are you alright? Why are we going to the hospital?" He heard his driver asked. This man has been working with him since he returned from Beijing six years ago and was familiar with his temper.
"I don't feel good. Might as well get it checked before it gets worse." He didn't want the Zhang family to know that he was rushing to the hospital to see his twin sister. Even if Zhang Xianzhe got the gist of what happened tonight, he wouldn't suspect him easily.
The driver glanced at his dashboard mirror to look at Zhang Jiren's face. He could see the paleness of his face and the harsh breathing he had at the moment. He was convinced that Zhang Jiren was truly sick.
As the car drove towards the hospital, Zhang Jiren leaned his back and shut his eyes, praying to all deities to keep his twin sister safe. She was the only family member he had now and it would break his heart. He would lose his mind if death managed to take her away from him.
He hadn't gotten to the bottom of their mother's death and yet, he was about to lose his twin sister? Did fate truly hate him so much that it was taking each of the family members he valued in his life? Wasn't it enough that their mother was killed and their father passed away from sickness before he could ask forgiveness from Tang Moyu?
'Please. I was the one who committed a grave mistake. If you are punishing me because of what I've done in the past, don't let my sister pay the price for it.'
