To Deny This Little Voice in My Heart 1
He shouldn't have allowed the little buns to tag along with him. He should've just left them with Auntie Lu and?inspected the construction of the pond in the garden alone earlier. While he was busy talking to Little Star who was sitting on his lap, the construction manager had assured him that the pond and the waterfalls would be fully functional before the day ended.
The shining sun beamed on the workers relentlessly working on their vast garden, careful not to ruin anything in the process. Feng Tianyi had decided to do the renovations now, while he and the little buns were still deciding on which crops to plant for the coming season.
The waterfall had stopped working because of a possible blockage in one of its pipes. At most, the workers could finish it in half a day. The color schemes and the plan for the pathway had already been discussed between him and Tang Moyu the other night.
However, he hadn't anticipated that Xiao Bao and Luo Luo would go to the unfinished bridge to play. Xiao Bao had slipped from one of the wooden planks and fell into the deep waters beneath them.
His startled cry and Luo Luo's screaming had caught Feng Tianyi and Little Star's attention. The devil immediately rushed to the pond and placed the girl on her feet.
"Baobao!" His heart skipped a beat as he saw the boy struggling to keep his head above the water. If only he wasn't crippled right now, he wouldn't even hesitate to jump into the water to save him.
"Yu Gege!" Little Star started to cry before running away to call for help.
"Auntie Lu! Uncle Yan! Help!" Feng Tianyi heard her voice from a far.
"Uncle Ji!" Xiao Bao waved his arms, his body slowly sinking into the water.
"Uncle Ji!" Feng Tianyi tightened his hold on the armrest of his wheelchair and pushed himself forward.
Fear gripped his heart as the boy's head submerged into the water for a few seconds before appearing again.
"Daddy!"
By then, Feng Tianyi couldn't care less about what would happen to him anymore and dived into the pond to save Xiao Bao. He was completely aware that though his legs were slowly recovering, for him to make a drastic movement like this might harm his legs more and would even deter his recovery.
Pain shot through him as he forced his legs to propel himself towards the boy and held him against his chest. Xiao Bao had fainted the moment Feng Tianyi held him, his head resting on his broad shoulder.
"Young Master! Mr. Qin!" The old woman gasped and hurriedly took the young boy from Feng Tianyi's arms.
Feng Tianyi groaned and laid on his back before turning to his cousin.
"Fengyan, take Baobao to the hospital. You must hurry!!"
He had noticed the blood trickling on the boy's forehead earlier, a sight that made the devil ignore the risks and jump in to save the little boy.
Song Fengyan nodded and took the boy from the old woman.
"I'll tell Yuyao and Lianchen to get you. You must have hurt your legs." He said before running away, taking Xiao Bao to his car, Auntie Lu following suit to accompany them to the hospital.
Gu Yuyao came with a crying Little Star on her side soon after as he stayed on the well manicured lawn near the pond, soaking wet.
"You look like shit." She said before helping him get back on his wheelchair. "How do you feel?" She asked.
"Horrible. My leg muscles hurt. Everything hurts." The devil confessed before wiping the tears from Little Star's cheek with his thumb. "Shh… don't cry, honey. Your brother will be fine."
"But Daddy, you are hurt too." Little Star sniffed and looked at him with teary eyes.
So what if he was in pain? If something wrong had happened to Xiao Bao under his watch, he would never be able to forgive himself and wouldn't know how to explain to Moyu why he failed to protect her son.
For the devil, meeting the Tang twins was a wonderful coincidence in his life. They were a pair of cute little buns who never seemed to fear him from the moment they met. In fact, these two had taken a liking to him, making him feel special and loveable, something that Feng Tianyi hadn't felt in a long time.
Hearing Xiao Bao call for his help made him throw caution to the wind and dived into the water to save him without a second thought. He didn't care if he ruined his chances of recovery just as long as he was able to save Little Feiyu's life. Consumed by worry and pain, he didn't even notice how the children had addressed him earlier.
Gu Yuyao helped him settle on the passenger's seat before giving He Lianchen a call and leaving Little Star and Luo Luo at home with Lin Qianrou, who'd just arrived for a visit. She wanted to surprise them, so she wasn't aware that her Sister Moyu had left an hour ago to see Li Meili.
"Go. Don't worry about the kids." Lin Qianrou held the crying Little Star in her arms, trying to coax her. "You better give Sister Moyu a call to let her know what happened."
And with that, Gu Yuyao and Feng Tianyi left the Peach Blossom Garden and headed out to follow Song Fengyan and Xiao Bao to the hospital. Gu Yuyao had dialed Tang Moyu's number but her line was busy.
"She must be on her way." Gu Yuyao assumed before deciding to give the empress dowager a call to inform her of Feng Tianyi's condition.
