NSLICE-00P analyzed the situation. The storm above was keeping her in range of the Legion’s long range weapons.

“Equalizer engaged.”

She fired the rainbow beam up at the storm. A small patch of the clouds lightened slightly but that was it. The Equalizer’s weakness was that it was destructively interfering, and so the amount of energy it could cancel at once depended on its power output. The storm contained a truly massive quantity of mana that the Equalizer currently couldn’t match, and was constantly receiving more so that the Equalizer couldn’t delete it over time. Likewise, the sheer amount of mana whipping about prevented her from destabilizing the spell in progress, since she couldn't find a sufficient weakpoint to target.

If she wanted to break the spell, she needed to target the magic circle producing it.

She did not see a circle in the sky, so she followed the trail of mana to the ground. In the distance, at the center of the legions, she could see a large, glowing formation with an unidentified device at the center and a large number of Legion personnel spaced about along the sides. She was still some distance from the Legion, so they were out of range of the Equalizer at present.

So NSLICE-00P adapted.

The sky under the storm clouds lit up as NSLICE-00P cast a spell of her own. The Aurora Barrage and Rain of Fire spells fused once again, preparing to rain explosive beams on the Legion below.

Just then, hundreds of small magic circles lit up among the Legion formation, individual soldiers casting their own spells. Once person in their midst thrust a staff into the ground, and then a large formation appeared linking all the individual circles.

A massive barrier appeared, covering the entire Legion force, just as NSLICE-00P opened fire.

Red beams shot from the sky and fiery explosions appeared on the barrier. But the barrier held.

NSLICE-00P fused her beams together, firing a truly massive attack that dimmed the world in comparison. Explosions and flames covered the sky as the beam collided with the barrier.

NSLICE-00P’s mana reserves were about thirty times greater than the average, level 1 person’s, and her mana density about twenty times. While the workings of mana were more complicated than simple multiplication, it was reasonably accurate to describe a spell cast with all of her mana as about six hundred times more powerful than what the baseline human was capable of. Perhaps more so, given the efficiency with which she could cast and Supercharge her spells.

But the Legion had centuries of experience fighting against individually powerful opponents. The Legion below, in particular, specialized in combating mages and the formation they utilized was forged by battles with the Empire of the Sun and its powerful Sun Elf Archons. More than six hundred soldiers combined their magic circles together to form this barrier, and none of them were level 1.

So when the fire cleared, the barrier still held, save small openings that appeared to allow the Legion’s counterattacks through.

NSLICE-00P’s robotic eye flickered. She dropped the fused magic circle and formed a basic Aurora Barrage spell. This time she layered each individual magic circle of a different element, intending to test them all at once.
